Greystone Dictionary
Here in the camp “bubble,” it sometimes feels like we have a language all our own. From traditions that have been in place since 1920, to abbreviations our recent campers have coined, the camp dictionary is extensive, but we want to let you in on it!

Camp Terms
After Evening Program, stop by the Dining Hall for a quick snack before bed (usually a few Nilla Wafers!).

An Evening Program - what we do every night! These can look like a lot of different things, but you know it’s always going to be fun.

Our two teams at camp - we’ve had them from the very beginning! You’re on the Evens (gold) team if you’re in an even-numbered cabin, and on the Odds (green) team if you’re in an odd-numbered cabin. We love having friendly competition throughout our sessions!
After your last class of the day, you have some free time before it’s time to clean your cabin. This is a great chance to shower, go to a Club, or have a tetherball tournament!
Every cabin has one, and your name will be on it! Every day you’ll spin the wheel to find out your job - everyone pitches in to keep the cabin clean.

A great way to meet someone new before you even come to camp! Every camper will be matched with a Penpal to write before the summer. Penpals are usually in the same grade as you and going to your same session. Our youngest girls at Main Camp are also paired with a Big Sister, one of our oldest campers. These are some of our favorite traditions!

At Shoppe, campers have the option of grabbing a sweet or savory snack to enjoy. Many campers like to enjoy their snack with a friend afterwards; it’s the perfect time to relax, reconnect, or make a new friend!
To celebrate something at camp, we all throw up our hands and wiggle our fingers. There’s always something exciting happening, so you’ll see lots of spirit fingers around here!

On some Fridays, we sleep in an extra hour and enjoy a picnic breakfast before jumping back in to the rest of the day. It’s the best extra hour of sleep you’ll ever get!

“The Bubble” is how many campers refer to that special spirit you can find at camp. You’re away from the worries and troubles of the world, and you just get to focus on your friendships, growth, and learning more about God. The Bubble can’t last forever, but we savor it when we’re here!
Traditions
Greystone Madness Champion: Banquet from Camp Greystone on Vimeo.
The biggest party of the summer that happens on the last night of camp where we get to celebrate the session we enjoyed together. The counselors put on a performance (shh - the theme is a secret!), and we have a big meal and cheer on our friends with awards. It always rates as one of the favorite Evening Programs of the summer!
A tradition that goes back to the very beginning of camp! We celebrate all the campers who have birthdays that session with a big party, complete with cake and a gift, as campers dine with Jimboy and Margaret. It’s one of our most fun meals for these girls of the session, and we do everything we can to help our birthday girls feel celebrated!
A chance for the Evens and Odds to compete throughout the morning. Everyone participates and earns points for her team!

A cherished camp tradition where we sit around the fire and talk about the more heart-centered parts of camp. We sing traditional songs, listen to Jimboy tell a story, and honor our friends who have passed levels in their classes.
In one of our most emotional EP’s of the summer, we honor girls who have spent 5 or more years at Greystone. The Senior-Seniors speak on what has kept them coming back year after year - it’s a beautiful event.
On Sunday mornings, campers can choose to meet us down by the track to run or walk the River Trail together. Complete it every Sunday and you get the special Stumblers t-shirt of the year! It’s the perfect way to get moving and start the Lord’s day together.

This Evening Program kicks off our Odds and Evens competition for the session. It’s a celebration of team spirit and includes lots of cheering!

At Main Camp we have a whole morning dedicated to team competition on the water. It’s a relaxed day where we can cool off, cheer on our friends, and earn a few more points for our teams.
Events
A camper favorite every session! It’s a celebration of FUN, with rides and food and dancing galore. There’s nothing not to love about Carnival!
Our Main campers love Corn Roast, a relaxed Evening Program that comes in the middle of our five weeks together. We listen to bluegrass music, enjoy incredible food, and dress in our country best.

The Evening Program that kicks off our sessions, where cabins get together to perform an act for the whole camp. It makes for great cabin bonding, and nothing feels better than the whole camp cheering for you!
The day we get to welcome YOU to camp - it feels like Christmas morning! You’ll find out your cabin, meet your counselor and cabinmates, and get settled for the best summer ever.

Places at Camp

A few minutes away from our main property, Bear Mountain is the perfect place for hikes and overnights, with one of the best mountain views around!
Our “middle grade” cabins - girls move to living in the bungalows after the tentalows and before the cabins.
The main, grassy area of camp where we meet for Flag every day and also enjoy many of our Evening Programs.
The open-air building where you’ll be every day for Morning Assemblies and some Evening Programs. Campers sit in the “pit,” the sunken area in the bottom.

Across the road from our front gate, Putt Cove is where you’ll go for Kayaking and Sailing classes.
Located at the mountain across from camp, Thunderhead is our beautiful overnight and trail-riding facility.
Your cabin! Specifically where the youngest girls in camp stay. Each of our 12 tentalows has both an upper and a lower level.
Camp Food
Where you’ll come for food at every meal - it’s in the center of camp so you can’t miss it! Some classes even meet on the porch.
Our kitchen’s dessert specialty. Ours has blueberries and white chocolate and it is delicious! Try making it at home.
Otherwise known as Oreo Cream Pie - a camper favorite! Make it at home today.
