During the summer, we want to make sure that you have plenty of time to rest and rejuvenate - you will need it! There are going to be days that we can accommodate an extra need to rest, but there will also be days that we all have to push through until our next time off. Here is a breakdown of all the times that you can “bank on” for a little rest throughout the summer.
Throughout the summer you will be given Days Off. Days Off during the session start after the blessing at breakfast (8:15) and end at midnight (when you have to be back in your cabin). During your Day Off, you’re welcome to enjoy our Gritz staff house located on the edge of the camp property! There you can take a nap, relax, do your laundry, play games with your friends, or watch a movie. You are also welcome to leave camp property or explore the local area; we just want you to do what will be most restful for YOU!
On some nights, you will have time off from Taps until midnight. On nights Cabin Staff can leave their cabins, camp is covered by a Patrol (everyone will rotate through helping out with Patrol, and you’ll learn more about it once you’re here at camp). On your nights off, you can leave camp as long as you are back in your bed by midnight, if not earlier. We encourage you to use this time but also make sure you are getting enough sleep!
If you’re in a cabin with campers, there will be some mornings where you can leave your cabin before Reveille to grab a cup of coffee or do your devotion on the Dining Hall porch. You must always make sure there is a counselor present in your building and that you are back in your cabin before Reveille blows.
Time off in between sessions is the greatest gift! We want you to SLEEP, do something for yourself, and most importantly SLEEP. You will have from the moment you are checked out on Closing Day (this could be any time from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m.), until 9 a.m. on the Sunday leading up to Opening Day of the next session. Note: the Gritz staff house will not always be open in-between sessions, but there are still plenty of other places to enjoy if you’re sticking around camp!
This is where it gets fun! You can go on a hike, go out to eat, see a movie, take a trip home, explore a local city, or catch up on laundry and Netflix in the Gritz house… just to name a few. Everyone likes to spend their days off differently; we just ask that you rest and stay safe!
