Program Staff

As you learned in your interview, at Greystone we have two types of staff: Cabin and Program, and any of our staff can serve in either role for any session throughout the summer. The heart of both roles is exactly the same - you will be working hard to serve our community and love these campers… and have a lot of fun doing it! You can read all about Cabin Staff here, but this page will tell you everything you need to know about Program Staff.

What will I love about Program Staff?

You will love the opportunity you get to make deep and intentional relationships with other counselors as well as the satisfaction that comes from a role of service. On Program Staff, you have more flexibility to make time for what matters to you - be that your daily run, a quiet time every morning, or reading a good book.

Covering cabins on Cabin Staff Days Off is fun; you’ll get to know many groups of campers this way! Program Staff is a multi-generational group of women, and each Program Staff cabin will have an older “mentor” who will check-in and support your group. Our Program Staff wear many hats and serve all over camp; you make camp run in a very tangible way!

What will my responsibilities be?

Camp could NOT function without our Program Staff - you make it happen! In addition to teaching classes, you will each be assigned different jobs that help keep camp running, from taking photos to organizing Lost and Found. You’ll find out your jobs at the beginning of the session. Many Program Staff will also be assigned to cover cabins of campers for Cabin Staff days off. You will get to know those girls and act like their cabin counselor for that day - it’s so much fun!

You are doing these jobs to the Glory of God - there is no small task, so do them with JOY! There will also be times that you’ll work with the whole Program Staff to set up or make sure everything’s in place for an EP. No matter what comes your way, be open and flexible, ready to jump in wherever you’re needed.

What do I do with my free time?

Your free time on Program Staff is there for you to rest and rejuvenate so you can love these campers better - it’s important to use it wisely. Figure out what you need to rest, and do more of that. Still, plug yourself into camp at every opportunity! Participate in a Great Day Group, go on a walk with a friend, or take the time to write in your journal. RESIST THE URGE to zone out with Netflix in the Counselor Hut. Believe us when we say that you will get out of camp what you put into it!

What does this mean for my relationship with campers?

You can still have incredible relationships with campers while on Program Staff. If anything, you’ll get to impact MORE campers because you’re not focused on just one cabin of girls. Every camper you interact with in your classes, at an event, or just around camp is a girl you can connect with, appreciate, model to, and pray over. You have opportunities EVERYWHERE to get to know these girls - you just have to look for them. Remember, we’re all here to serve them and put them first in everything we do.

How do requests work?

Our cabin assignments switch every session, so you may be on Cabin Staff for a session and then on Program Staff for a session. Some staff members may stay on Cabin or Program Staff the whole time you’re here! It all comes down to your requests and camp’s needs.

You’ll have the chance to request Cabin or Program Staff before each session. If you request to be on Program Staff, we’ll also want to know who you’ll want to live with. We want to know what you’re feeling drawn towards, but remember, requests are never guaranteed! Start praying now that the Lord would prepare you for the role He has for you here, and that He would enable you to serve joyfully wherever you are needed.
