All About our Evening Programs

We have so much fun during the day, but after dinner is when things really shine! Throughout the summer, we have a mix of active EPs and more traditional EPs. Some of our EPs we have been enjoying for over 100 years, and some of them are brand new this summer. We try to balance all the activities in different ways to provide the very best night-time events that we can.

All the Fun

Lip Syncs: We start every session with these, and (like everything at camp) it’s for a specific reason! Each cabin group will get on stage and perform a fun dance to a song of their choice. Cabin counselors will participate with their cabin. It’s a great opportunity to join together and work as a team for the first time!

Carnival: The cream of the crop of Evening Programs! Picture inflatable rides, tons of food, fun music, a dance contest, and more, and you’ve got the gist of Carnival. This Evening Program is a camper favorite! At our 4th of July Carnival, we end the night with fireworks.

Group Night: At some of our sessions, we split into age-groups to celebrate Group Night. Each Group Leader will host the event, planning fun activities for their age group.

Concerts: During Main Camp, we enjoy Sunday night concerts. We bring in visiting musicians and enjoy a relaxing night listening to some wonderful music.

Movie Night: A time for the girls to relax and enjoy a movie with their friends! Full of fun treats, Movie Night is a great break in the schedule.

Corn Roast: This Main Camp event is a true favorite amongst the girls. Everyone wears “hillbilly” type of attire and we eat a big BBQ feast.

Birthday Ball and Talent Show: During the Birthday Ball, we honor all the girls who have birthdays at camp with a big dinner and birthday cake! The girls are then entertained that evening with a Talent Show put on by the campers. Leading up to the Talent Show, we enjoy Mini Talent Shows the week before, as girls try-out to participate in the bigger Talent Show performance for all of camp.

Counselor Talent Show: Just what you’d imagine – counselors on stage doing their thing. This night usually leans towards the silly and ridiculous, as girls love laughing along with our staff on stage.

Banquet: Shhhh…it’s a secret! This is our final night of camp, as you (the counselors) put on a performance for the girls to enjoy. Campers don’t know the theme until it is revealed that night. We decorate each table and then enjoy our final meal together. Awards are given to recognize high achievements in each department.

Surprise Evening Programs: We leave some of our Evening Programs as a surprise on purpose! Campers enjoy guessing what is to come, as we throw out some new events each summer. This also allows for us to switch programs around due to weather if needed. Trust that we’ll tell you everything you need to know to be prepared for an event, and enjoy the surprise along with the campers!

More Serious Traditions

Vespers: Spread throughout the summer, this is one of those traditions dating back to the beginning of camp. Girls will wear whites, and we spend the night talking about the light within each of us and how that light spreads. Campers will light a candle at our Opening Vespers service, as we “lift our candles high” to represent the power of so many girls representing Christ together. At Main Camp, we float candles on the lake during our Closing Vespers service, helping the girls understand that the impact of their lights going out into the world.

Council Fire: A wonderful tradition beginning in the 1920s, Council Fire allows us to slow down and honor girls excelling in camp. As campers work in their program classes, they can pass levels and will receive patches at our Fires. At Main Camp, you’ll have the chance to nominate campers for the Spirit of Greystone Award, given at each fire to girls of all ages who demonstrate the qualities of the Honor Council Pledge.

Five Year: This is a Main Camp EP where we honor all of the girls who have attended Greystone for five years or more. Of those five years at camp, at least three must have been at the Main session. The honorees wear all white dresses, and our oldest girls share special memories with the group.

Senior Celebration: This special Main Camp night is our talent show for our Senior Campers, allowing us to honor our oldest campers in camp. Cabins and groups will perform different acts for the campers in our beautifully decorated Pavilion.

Team Events

Camp Teams: We have two teams at camp and compete in a friendly competition during each session. Girls in odd-numbered cabins are on the Odds team (green) and girls in even-numbered cabins are on the Evens team (gold/yellow).

Team Fires: A kick-off for our team competition, girls learn team cheers and get ready for the summer’s competition. At our shorter sessions, the counselors will compete in some silly challenges during the evening, and our guys serve as the cheerleaders. At Main Camp, our campers choose Captains and Lieutenants for their teams from a group of older girls nominated by their peers.

Challenge Day: Our official Odd-Even event of each session, where the teams compete in different competitions to earn points for their teams. Main campers miss their morning classes for this camp-wide event.

Watersports Day: A Main Camp team event, think Challenge Day but with water! Girls love this relaxing morning with friends as they earn points for their teams. Campers miss their morning classes for this exciting day as well.
