Co-Counselors

A few years ago, we started assigning more co-counselors in cabins, and it was such a huge success, we can’t imagine ever going back to having only single counselors! Campers and counselors both loved it (we’ll talk more about why later on this page!), and while not everyone will have a co, many of you will at some point this summer.

How will you assign co’s?

Just like all of our cabin and counselor placement decisions, we take assigning co-counselors seriously and prayerfully! You will have the opportunity to let us know who you might like to be co-ed with when you request a camper age group (this happens during Orientation for June Camp and before Main and August Camps).

We want to know who you enjoy and think you’d work well with, but you’re also welcome to leave it up to us! We’ll match you carefully based on every factor imaginable, from your personality to your department to your age-group requests. We know it’s hard to wait for an assignment, but we would ask that you trust us, and trust God most of all. The thing that gives us confidence in ALL aspects of camp is that He is at work in it, and using it all for His glory and your good.

Will I stay with the same co-counselor the whole summer?

Not necessarily! Just like we do with all other cabin requests, we will re-evaluate your housing and placement at the end of each session. If you are obsessed with each other and want to stay together, you can let us know! If you’d like to switch things up, we’ll listen to that as well.

What should I know now about co’s?

  • Our staff LOVE having co-counselors! Your co-counselor will be your built-in support system and best friend. The workload is easier (and quicker!) when you have someone to split it with, and you will always have a helper in daily cabin routines.
  • We will explain co-counselors during Orientation and have routines in place to help you communicate and collaborate with your co. When we said we’re going to help you, we meant it! From the first day you’re paired together, we’ll have resources available for you to set session goals together and get on the same page. And then after that, we’ll have time set aside for you to check back in with each other and communicate proactively throughout the session.
  • Not everyone will have a co, but we want to pair up as many of you as possible! Like always, we’d encourage you to come into the summer (including your thoughts about your cabin assignment) with hands and hearts open to whatever the Lord has for you each session. No matter if you have a co-counselor or not, we will help you every step of the way and will support you in having a great session with those campers.
