All about Packing

We know packing for camp is on your mind this time of year, and we want to take the stress away and make it as simple as possible, so read on for our best tips!

Start out with our Staff Packing List. This will get you going with the essentials to have for your summer at Greystone. Make sure to read through the 2nd page for advice from the people who know best - our staff!

Packing for Orientation

During Orientation you’ll be living in a cabin with other counselors, which means that you won’t move into your June Camp housing until the end of the week.

Because of this, make sure to pack everything you need for the first 5 days of camp in an overnight bag. You will store everything else in your car (or in the Counselor Hut) until you get your cabin assignment for June Camp.

So you will need…

  • Clothes for 5 days (including a sweatshirt and raincoat)
  • Toiletries
  • A pen or pencil and something to write in
  • Either a sleeping bag or bedding for your Orientation cabin bunk

A few things you may not have thought about yet…

  • Like many places, Greystone has a dress code! All shorts must have a recognizable inseam, one-piece bathing suits are the name of the game, and your midriff must be covered.
  • What you pack in is as important as what you pack! Feel free to pack in whatever you like, but know that you’ll be moving yourself between cabins multiple times throughout the summer. A lot of counselors like to pack in plastic bins with handles or smaller duffel bags that are easier to carry than a trunk.
  • You won’t be able to rely on your phone, so a simple sports watch is a necessity (not a smart watch!). A cheap alarm clock for your cabin is also a good idea!
  • Many of our staff prefer a headlamp to a flashlight for hands free seeing in the dark.
  • It’s always handy to have your own set of scissors, markers, and duct tape - you’ll be surprised by how much you use them!
  • You’ll be glad to have a comfortable set of whites. Think white running shorts and a t-shirt - great for pulling on when you’re sweaty and gross!

At the end of the day, don’t stress. If you get here and realize you forgot something or need something you didn’t think about, there’s always Amazon or a Walmart run! Bring what is going to make you comfortable, and we will make sure you have what you need to do your job.
