Meet a Director: Katie

Welcome to the team!

I am so excited to welcome you to Camp Greystone this summer! I have loved camp my whole life, as I grew up here, was a camper, counselor, and now director. I live here at camp with my husband, Greg. We have five children, with Elizabeth working year-round for Greystone, running the Barn, and Hanna Kate working in the Health Hut this summer. I’m known for my love of cooking and entertaining… having a party is always one of my favorite things! Traveling, the beach, a good book, and just hanging at home with family rank high on the list too!

A Little Q & A with Katie

Years at camp: My mother brought me to camp one month after I was born…..so basically my whole life! I have been a camper/staff for over 50 years!

Here’s what you can find me doing at camp: At Junior Camp I direct the session from the Lower Office. The rest of the summer you will find me at The Greystone Store.

Come find me if you ever need… ANYTHING….my door is always open to talk and I want to know you better!

These are a few of my favorite things: My sweet husband, Greg! My puppies, Pippi and Max! My children and grandchildren! Cooking, movies, the beach, travel, parties, and hanging out with my family!

Guilty pleasure? Any Victorian era book or movie - like Pride and Prejudice.

One thing you wouldn’t guess about me: I met my husband on Match.com.

Book I’m loving right now: Lately, I have been too busy to read, but one devotional book I am enjoying right now is Gifts and Gratitude by Ann Voskamp.

The best thing about working at camp is… How you feel at the end when you have given 100% to your campers and fellow staff members! You are tired, but there is a huge sense of satisfaction for a job well done!

Preparing for Camp

You’ve gone through the interview process, signed your contract, and committed yourself to Greystone this summer, but you may be wondering: what happens next? What can I do now to prepare to be a counselor? That’s what these newsletters are for!

In each month’s newsletter, we’ll share a few key ways to get ready for the summer ahead. Follow along with us here, and you’ll feel like an expert come May. Have questions before then or want to chat? Just reach out!

  • Fill out your staff profile! We’ll post these profiles to our Blog next month, and they’re a great way to get to know your fellow staff members before you arrive. We need yours ASAP, so don’t delay - go ahead and fill it out now!
  • Follow us on social media. We love being tech-free in the summer, but social media is a great way to connect with us during the rest of the year! Find us on Instagram (including our staff page!) or Facebook.
  • Join the 2025 Cabin Staff GroupMe Group or the 2025 Program Staff GroupMe Group. You do not need to be in both! This is the place to meet other staff members, ask questions, and just get excited about the summer together. We’ll also use it for important announcements and updates, so make sure that you’ve downloaded GroupMe and are a part of the group!
  • Start praying for the summer ahead! This might be the most important item on this list. We believe that prayer is powerful, and we’ll be praying lots together throughout this summer, but why not go ahead and add Greystone to your prayer list this spring? We’ll always include some specific prayer prompts in each newsletter, so make sure to read through the end for those!

We’re still hiring for our Junior Camp 2025 team, but spaces are filling up fast. Do you have a friend who would be perfect for this job? We’d love to meet her!

Working at camp is more fun with friends, so if you that they’re applying and they work the whole session, you’ll receive a $50 cash bonus with your paycheck!

Staff Manual: January Edition

As we’ve said, we want you to come into the summer feeling completely prepared (and excited!) for the job ahead, and part of that is making information about camp and your role as a staff member available for you to reference whenever you’d like.

We’ll be breaking down our 2025 Staff Manual into manageable sections that we’ll be sharing each month in the newsletter. We’d encourage you to click through these pages now or bookmark them for later. This month, we’re giving you some general information about what Greystone is all about and who you’ll meet here this summer.

Pray with us!

At camp we believe prayer is powerful, so every month until the summer we want to lift up a particular topic to the Lord. Let’s give this summer to Him from the very beginning!

To kick off our months of prayer, there’s no better topic than to pray for our campers! Just wait until you meet them. They are the sweetest, funniest, smartest, most incredible people on this planet, and spending time with them this summer will make your year.

Start praying with us specifically for the campers who will be arriving on Opening Day. Pray for any nerves they may have as they think about returning to Greystone (or coming for the very first time!). Pray that they will make friends, learn new skills, and experience growth in every area this summer. Pray that Jesus would prepare their hearts for the time they’ll spend here, and open their eyes to Him most of all.

The more time you spend praying for the campers you’ll meet this summer, the softer your heart will be towards them when they arrive!

Verse to meditate on:

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
