Were you able to join us for the Great Day Alumnae Weekend this year? Have you been following our Staff Instagram? Or, have you been catching up with old camp friends and just reminiscing about how epic Banquet was in 1991? Now matter how you’ve been connecting with camp recently, we want to make sure you can have your own little slice of “the Bubble” in 2024, too!

Every year, Junior Camp welcomes alumnae and camp parents (both past and present) as part of our Program Staff, as they work our cutest, fastest session of the summer. We hope you’ll think about joining us this year! During the week of Junior Camp, you’ll work hard, teach a variety of classes (from Tennis to Canoeing to Crafts…you can help pick!), and also remember what it’s like to have that first bite of Opening Day spaghetti in the Dining Hall.

Our Junior Campers are delightful, but don’t just take our word for it! Make sure to read to the end of this article to hear from some alumnae themselves about their experience working at Junior Camp in 2023. As you’ll read, working Junior Camp was important to them, and they appreciated putting aside their “real-world” duties for 10 days to prioritize being in our miracle in the mountains!

Before we jump in, you may be wondering: what will I do with my own young children? If you have children you might want to bring with you, we may have a spot for them in our Fun Bunch (1st - 8th grade for girls, 1st - 4th grade for boys), working in the Kitchen, or Babysitting!

Ready to Apply?

Itching to have your own Junior Camp experience? We’d love to talk to you! today or fill out your Junior Camp application!

Hayes Grier Richter

Years as a camper? 10 years
Years working on staff? 7 on full summer staff, 2 at Junior Camp
What makes you want to return to Greystone to work? I love Greystone! I love the opportunity to serve the next generation of girls and to reconnect with not only old friends but new ones, too. I love the wonderful way that camp fills my cup for the whole year.
How would you describe the day of the life of a Program Staffer to someone who is new? Full! You will know exactly what to expect each day and how to do your job successfully. You will be busy, and you will smile all day, every day!
What do you personally feel like you get out of the week (and a half)? I loved introducing my own daughters to camp and seeing them fall in love with the people, places, and traditions I love. Someone described Program Staff like a mission trip. I love that. When you see the session as a chance to serve, you see your time away as an opportunity and a gift.
Anything potential new staffers should know before applying/coming back to camp? Pack your sweatshirt, and don’t worry about being too removed from camp after many years away. You will immediately fall back into the rhythms like you never left!
Words of wisdom? Greystone really is a miracle in the mountains. What a gift camp is to so many of us. If you have the time and capacity, you will undoubtedly find value in serving the next generation of Greystone girls for a week.

Caroline Bergan

Years as a camper? 9 years
Years working on staff? 1 full summer on staff while in college and 1 Junior Camp session last year
What makes you want to return to Greystone to work? Being a part of the Greystone community has had a tremendously positive impact on my life. I knew that if I could make it work, there was no better way to spend some time off from my full-time job (where I’m in front of a computer most of the day!) than serving and working alongside incredible staff. It was so energizing, inspiring, motivating, and enriching to work at Junior Camp last summer, and I can’t wait to go back!
How would you describe the day of the life of a Program Staffer to someone who is new? Each day is full, and you are given an array of purposeful assignments throughout the day to serve campers and help run all components of camp. These assignments include teaching a class, setting up and serving meals, cleaning up the Dining Hall and program areas, assisting with cabin bedtime, helping run Evening Programs, and so much more! You’re on your feet, you’re unplugged and focused on being present in the community, you’re looking for ways to always help out where needed, and you build such special relationships with campers and staff. The best part is you’re doing everything alongside fellow Program Staffers who are wonderful and become your true friends by the end of the week.
What do you personally feel like you get out of the week (and a half)? Greystone’s mission and four-fold philosophy truly impacts your heart, mind, and soul if you’re there for even just a week! I loved being totally out of my normal routine and working hard doing something very different than my day job back at home…and getting to know fellow staff members was a joy.
Do you have any funny stories or memories from Junior Camp? You are pretty much guaranteed to leave camp with some hilarious camper quotes from mealtimes. Also, their energy and excitement is beyond what you can imagine - they are so psyched with every little announcement; it’s infectious.
Anything potential new staffers should know before applying/coming back to camp? It can feel like a long time to be away from your job, your home, your family, your life… but it was the best thing I did this year. I didn’t miss anything important in the grand scheme of things, and I felt like I plugged in my soul for a week and charged up. I left feeling closer to God and more at peace and fulfilled than I could have guessed - it was totally worth it, and I left knowing I had to prioritize coming back in years to come.
Words of wisdom? Go into the week ‘palms up’ and with open expectations!
