Alums We Saw at Camp This Summer

Each summer, we are lucky enough to welcome back so many of our Greystone Alumnae to Tuxedo, and this year, we had the true cream of the crop return to their summer home! While it is impossible to mention every alum we enjoyed visiting with in 2024, we are highlighting just a few of our previous Greystone campers who became Greystone alums who then became Greystone staff members. Enjoy catching up on these pals, good ‘ole pals!

This year, our Main Camp Green and Gold was dedicated to none other than our wonderful Greystone Travel Director, Caroline Nickles Mullen. The dedication itself says it best: “She delights visitors with amazing tours (sharing personal stories of camp and putting every guest at ease). She is gifted with managing detailed logistics and is not afraid to work late and get up early. Her Banquet announcements leave no doubt that she is the best Travel Director we have ever had.” Congratulations Caroline!

Junior Camp always appreciates the large number of camper alums who return each summer. In leadership positions, we were lucky enough to snag Carrie Bergan as the head of our Program Staff and welcomed Emily Shirer as our Head Group Leader. Kelly Carew Michel also dusted off her fanny pack to return as our Junior Camp Program Director; it felt like the good ‘ole days during our one-week session!

Longtime Greystone Junior counselors Fran Crook and Ginger Crook Haas once again returned to our Junior Camp Program Staff, and many other former Greystone campers returned to serve on our Junior Program Staff this year (we just LOVE their enthusiasm!). Thank you, Greystone alumnae!

We saw most of our old Greystone campers turned alums as they dropped off their daughters on Opening Day. We also had many old Greystone campers return to work our Opening and Closing Days this year. Alum groups often make a reunion weekend out of volunteering for an Opening or Closing Day by meeting up with their camp friends and working together. We would love for you and your group to join us this year! In the spring, look for details on our Blog so that you can sign-up to help with Opening or Closing Days this year.

If you’re looking to visit with an alum during the summer, the Health Hut is a great place to start! Margaret Ann Scheu Speakman joined our year-round team as our Medication Director, handling our many complicated medication protocols for our campers. We also loved having these previous Greystone campers back on our Health Hut nurse team this year: Claudia Baldwin Pierpoint, Anna Lemaster, Shaye Sullivan, Libby Floyd, Liddy Blincow, and Sara Moran Bullock.

A “giddy up cowgirl” could be heard down at the Barn as Patty Friend Douglass helped in all areas of our Riding program, especially with our English riding clinics. Mary Allen Edgerton returned as our Canoeing Department Head and paddled our Greystone canoers on the Green River once again this year (don’t miss this great article about our river trips from last year). Both Patty and Mary Allen received their 25-year patch at Council Fire this summer, recognizing that 2024 marked their 25th year on staff with us. Thank you to both of these alums for their many years at Greystone!

We always love when our faithful alumnae are willing to try their hand at something new, and Mary Ellen Stebbins helped us envision a Main Camp club for girls interested in stage lighting. This group added specialty lighting to our Production Night performance and Synchro Watershow at the pool (which even included underwater lights!). Katherine Mahon Robinson kept us in stitches up in the Sewing department as she dressed as Mrs. Claus to welcome campers to her Christmas-themed sewing department this year. It was a jolly good time!

Heading up our Waterpark department, Sara Vance Oliver returned once again this summer to lead this popular camper activity. While we don’t host many weddings at camp, we were lucky enough to celebrate Sara’s son Joseph and his new wife Carlisle at Greystone this past September. In 2024, we also welcomed back a slew of other wonderful campers turned staffers who headed departments for us this year: Caroline Small Groh (Tennis), Ginger VanSkiver Wallace (Hiking), Sandi Lavery Taylor (Bible), Brogan Jackson (Photography), and Lydia Turbeville (Ceramics).

Thank you to these Greystone alumnae who helped make the magic happen this year! If you want to join us at camp next summer, reach out to to find out more about Junior Camp, or look for a blog in the spring about helping on Opening and Closing Days. We hope to see you in 2025!
