Main Camp is unique… I have never experienced a community that is like it. June Camp is close, but the shorter timeframe combined with the younger age limit the outcome. Campers take longer to adjust to camp life as the spirit of camp establishes itself over a period of days. At Main, this pattern is different. Campers embrace the spirit of camp the minute they arrive. They understand what camp is, and don’t want to waste a minute. Any hesitant campers are pulled along in the torrent of positive energy. It is amazing to experience. This is camp the way camp OUGHT to be!

Last night’s Program Skits. were so much fun. The counselors were witty and delightfully giddy haming it up for the crowd of campers. The program was enhanced by the outdoor setting. A cool breeze combined with soft dappled sunlight coming through the poplar trees that shade the entire pagent court at that time of day made for very comfortable setting. It was laid back and funny at the same time. We ended with a surprise counselor dodgeball challenge. We blasted a classic “pump up” track and everyone clapped in unison to the familiar beat of “We Will Rock You”. Counselors vs. campers in an epic dodgeball game to be played this afternoon.

Our Tentalow Lip Sync EP tonight will be fun and I am thrilled that we will once again be outside. We will have time to catch fireflies as they arise from our feet; easily caught and quickly let go. Hopefully, we will have time for a camp-wide dance party on the stage before Call to Quarters.

Today’s rundown:

  • Breakfast (Ham, Baked Apples, Biscuits, Grits, Fruit, Cereal),
  • Joke “Ike Pike and Mustard meet a Genie”
  • Morning Assembly (The Pavilion Verses)
  • Nice, hot weather (blue skies, 88 degrees, breezy).
  • Lunch BLT’s, Egg Salad, Turkey Salad
  • Dinner Pan Fried Chicken, Red Rice, no dessert (first Shoppe)
  • EP Tentalow/Bungalow Lip Sync

Photographs… Our goal is to upload a couple thousand photos daily, hopefully getting a couple of good shots of each girl in camp. We go to different classes, rotating the time we go to class… hopefully catching the girls doing what they love best. We try to frame the shots correctly, to adjust the camera settings so they are clear and well-lit. We try, in short, to meet your expectations. We always fall short of this goal. In an attempt to crack the code we purchase new equipment and hire photographers who know what they are doing. They are not professionals and sometimes miss the mark…know that our heart is in the right place.

We are so very grateful to share this summer with your girls… grateful for your prayers… grateful for you support. THANK YOU
