Hello new camper parents! It is hard to believe that this is our final new camper blog before the summer. Camp is coming soon, and we are counting down the days until you arrive! As you’re getting ready for the summer, here are some final things to help make sure you are prepared and ready for the fun ahead!
Print off the Pre-Summer Checklist. We have a great Pre-Summer Checklist on page 5 of our Parent Handbook. If you haven’t been using it yet, now is the time! It’s a great way to stay on top of all of the camp prep in these last few weeks. Also, make sure to use the packing lists in the Handbook or print off the packing lists on our Packing for Camp page.
Keep working on those pre-camp skills. Don’t forget to check out our list of skills your daughter can be practicing as she prepares for the summer. Talk through these things before you arrive!
Talk through some different camp topics before she arrives. Make sure to talk about advocating for yourself at camp and about how showering will work. Talk through the food options so that your daughter knows about all of our meals; also, remind her to tell her table counselor if she is hungry or doesn’t know where to get food she may like. If you haven’t talked about what to do if she misses home, make sure to reassure her that missing home is normal. We have some great homesickness pointers on our website as well. Talk through the fun class options too – you can look through our Junior options and our June, Main, and August options.
Get ready for summer communication. If you haven’t downloaded the Campanion app, go ahead and get yourself ready for summer photos and emails. Using the Campanion app is the easiest way to look at photos and write your camper an email on the go. You’ll also want to make sure you’re signed up for photo facial recognition. We will send you an email about 2 weeks before the start of your session with the information about your options, but go ahead and register, if you’re interested. You can read about the two options we are offering this summer on our Photos page. Make sure you share the camp address with your friends and family so they can write to your camper while she is at Greystone!
Make sure you’re bunk-ready. Setting up your camp bunk is so much fun! Remember, we only allow girls to hang photos (no extra decorations), so print out a few pictures before you arrive. If you haven’t purchased some Rest Hour activities, now is a good time to stock up on some things to do. And pick out a stuffed animal to make the trip to camp – many girls like having a fuzzy friend to sleep with!
Prepare for Opening Day. Make sure to watch our video from three years ago to see how the Opening Day process works. It’s a good place to start, even though many of the procedures have changed (i.e. no more masks or Health Log). Make sure to check your arrival time, and then read up on what it will be like when girls arrive at their cabins and how the rest of Opening Day will work. Get excited; it is so much fun!
Prepare for Goodbye. The drop off process is very quick; we’ll have you in and out in about 3 minutes! We’d recommend reading up on how to Prepare for Goodbye before you even arrive. Give your big hug before you hop in the car on Opening Day morning. If you prolong the drop off process, it is only going to make it harder on your daughter!
Get excited! This summer is going to be the BEST SUMMER EVER, and we cannot wait to welcome you to Greystone in a few short weeks! Talk positively about the summer with your daughter – it will only make her more excited.
If you have any last minute questions, feel free to give us a call. Otherwise, we will see you in just a few short weeks!!
