How Closing Day Works

With camp right around the corner, we know Opening Day is on many of your minds. We have a great video from a few years ago to show you how the Opening Day process works (even though some things have changed, like no masks and no Health Log). Overall, it is a fun way to get a feel for the drop-off process.

However, Closing Day will be here before you even realize it. The process is very different than Opening Day. So, how does Closing Day work?

Parents Can Enjoy the Camp Property

On Closing Day, you will park your car on our soccer field and walk into camp to pick up your daughter. It is so much fun to see your daughter’s cabin and meet her cabinmates! Parents can arrive any time after 9 a.m., with most parents arriving by 9:45 a.m. Parents arrive early as they are usually eager to see their girls!

Once you find your daughter at her cabin, you can tour her favorite classes, see where she sat in the Dining Hall, and visit The Greystone Store one last time. After this, she’ll want to give her counselor and cabin friends one last hug before heading home. We ask that all families depart by 11:30 a.m.

Coffee, Alumnae Table, and Meet the Directors

In the Fort when you arrive, we will have coffee and snacks available for parents. If you are a Greystone alumna, stop by our alum table to pick up a fun giveaway from us. Also, our Directors will be down in the Fort at the beginning of the morning to meet and greet with our camp families; come say “hi” and introduce yourself!

Luggage Pick-Up

Your daughter’s large luggage will be sorted in our Fort building right next to where you will park on the soccer field. We sort this luggage by cabin and then by camper to make it easy to find. You’ll see a small “mountain” of her things ready to load into your car. We have staff available in the Fort to help carry your luggage to your car; we ask that you not pull up to the Fort to load luggage due to our exiting traffic. Also, don’t forget her laundry bag! Campers don’t have a filled laundry bag when they arrive, but you’ll have plenty of clothes to wash when you get home (get ready!).

You can pick up luggage first thing when you arrive (before going to see your camper) or you can grab it on the way out. Either way, we will be ready to help you load it into your car.

While we will have all of her bigger items sorted for you in the Fort, your daughter will still have smaller items waiting at the cabin. She may have her bookbag, her pillow, and other small things to carry to the car. Don’t forget to grab these on your way out!

Also, if you are picking up your daughter and then flying home, you may want to bring an extra bag with you for the flight. Your daughter’s things will not pack quite as nicely as when you sent her to camp, and she may have accumulated different crafts projects to bring home. Having an extra bag for those odds and ends before you fly home is always helpful!

If you need your luggage shipped home, make sure to read all of our details on how that works on our Camper Luggage page.

Lost and Found

Down in our Fort, we will have all of our unlabeled lost and found on display for you to look through one last time. We want to send you home with all of your items, so make sure to take a look at what we’ve collected before you head out!

Express Pick-Up

At our June, Main, and August sessions, we offer a quick pick-up option for parents who need to get on the road quickly. Parents choosing this Express Pick-Up option will need to arrive between 8 – 8:30 a.m., and you won’t be able walk around camp. It really is a fast pick-up! You can read more about Express Pick-Up on our Closing Day information page, and make sure to register for this at least 1 week prior to Closing Day (link on our Closing Day page).

Closing Day is always a bittersweet day – we know you’ll be thrilled to see your camper, but we are always sad to see her go! Let us know if you have any questions about Closing Day; we can’t wait to see you soon.
