Today is our first day of classes for the summer, and it brings such delight to see the campers spread out all over camp participating in activities–some of which they have never experienced before. The first days of camp provide many moments of growth as girls learn how things work and settle in with their friends. This is a good thing, and helps develop resiliency in all of us! The counselors teach this throughout the day by their actions (always positive and always encouraging) and by their words (we call the one-on-one conversations DMCs–Deep, Meaningful Conversations).

Breakfast this morning was scratch made biscuits, baked apples, fried ham, grits, lots of fruit, cereal, juice, milk, and really great coffee. Gervais (our food director) also has a coffee roasting business. We only drink freshly roasted coffee (less than one week old) and it’s ground just before brewing. Each day the counselors joyfully go through about 15 gallons!

My brother, Jimboy, leads Breakfast Club every morning where he teaches the Four Fold Way (living out your life spiritually, mentally, socially, and physically.) This morning he encouraged the campers to always smile, especially as they’re going about their day at camp. Smiling says “I can be your friend!” And when you smile, you end up feeling happier as well. Smiling is one of the ways you can make any day a great one!

For lunch we are having Chicken Fingers, Tater Tots, Peas & Carrots, a delicious and full Salad Bar and a homemande cookie for dessert.

Remember that we will be posting lots of pictures every day! To see photos of your camper, log in to your Greystone account and click on the “Photos” button. You can download photos for free! We take thousands of photos every day, so you should see photos every day or every other day. If you aren’t seeing photos of your daughter, send her an email to remind her to jump in front of the camp camera!

Handwritten letters are treasures, but you can send your camper emails as well. Emails get printed and distributed in the mail at Rest Hour and can be a great way to send a quick note! To send an email to your camper, log in to your Greystone account and click the “Email” button. We print emails at 11:00am every day.

Tonight’s EP: Cabin Lip Syncs! Cabins will bond even more as they pick a song, choose a theme, and choreograph a dance together to perform on stage in front of all of the camp. No matter what kind of act they perform, the girls always leave the stage giggling as they recap how it went!

It has been a wonderful start to our session and the girls are engaged in camp and adjusting so well! They are happy, and even now as I write they are screaming with delight in Waterpark and learning their first strokes in Canoeing so that they can get out on the lake.

It’s a great day here at Greystone. Thank you for checking in!
