Saturday

Saturdays… Gotta Love ’em. They make our hearts soar like the eagle for they mark the high water point of the weekend. When Saturday arrives, you do what you want to do (if you are fortunate). It is a day for “mindless” tasks that provide a sense of accomplishment (mow the lawn, wash the car, organize the garage, go to Costco). A day to have fun… play golf, watch football, catch a movie, eat dinner with friends. A day of great possibility. Therefore, when you choose to read the blog on the weekend, we consider it to be a big deal. Such is the attitude of one who really loves camp… perhaps even a fanatic!

We are grateful for your interest and it makes us want to deliver on your expections (which depend on what demographic you happen to be). Our reader population is mixed. Most are parents of campers, some are alums (former campers or counselors who just enjoy checking in), and some are fellow camp professionals (we read each others blogs). We are grateful for you all.

We are joined together by a passion for camping; soaking up every detail because we care. The blog is a remarkable resource for such a person. This is why I make writing the blog a priority. Every day I spend hours on it, each entry flavored by my opinion of what you want to know. So my assumptions of those desires are good to mention (feel free to write if I should add facets to these assumptions).

  • Parents are drawn to details which might be helpful in the-short term (particularly when writing emails and letters) and eventually in the year to come (dinnertime or carpool conversations).
  • Alums vicariously reconnect with their childhood and the simple lessons of camp (which they appreciate more as they grow older).
  • Colleagues seek interesting new program, menu, or equipment ideas to consider. We copy eachother a lot! I reached out to a peer just this week asking his advice on a facility problem.
  • Prospective Families glance over the blog as a part of their camp research… and this is a great idea. They understand how a camp’s mission works itself out in day to day life.

So while your numbers on the weekend might be few, your impact is great and you are highly valued. Thank You!

For your weekend shopping pleasure I will share some equipment that the campers love…

  • Ooni Koda Pizza Oven. We have two of these things and love them both for camp and home use. Pizza dough is super easy to make and the 900-degree ovens cook a perfect pizza in about 40 seconds. So much fun!
  • Eno Hammocks are hugely popular with the girls. We added stands this year. Four were not enough, we now have 10! They are awesome both in the trees and on the stands (great place to read and to talk).

Tonight will be our last Group Night EP… The counselors are now experts on these fun programs, knowing exactly how to set up, run, and clean up the event. Every detail works perfectly. This smoothness will be enhanced by the perfect weather. Temperatures in the 70’s, no chance of rain, and a full moon to boot. All EP’s from now on are big deals and the girls are anticipating each and every one. It is going to be a great week… We can’t wait!

  • Breakfast Sausage Biscuits
  • Lunch Chicken sandwiches
  • Dinner Meatloaf with mashed potoates

Have a Great Day!
