Today is the Friday between Main and August Camp. Break Time! We are recharging our emotional batteries so that we might give the girls our best efforts next week. It’s like that great song from “Hamilton”… Take a Break always makes me think of this point in the summer.
The camp is not exactly quiet for there is a hard-working team taking care of needed landscaping, maintenance, and cleaning needs. The sounds of weedeaters, mowers, blowers, vacuums, and hammers make camp feel lively but the crowds of campers and counselors are gone. Their absence makes for a quiet camp no matter what the activity level, it is not the same.
This break is much appreciated by the counselors and directors who have two more weeks of camp ahead of them. We arrived in May (first training began May 22) and have been going full steam ever since. The days were long, the weeks were short, and we had a blast… and are ready for a weekend off. Everyone left yesterday afternoon and will return early on Sunday to make our preparations for our Best August Camp Ever! Everyone will return with big smiles and loud cheers for this, our youngest “regular” session of the year. It is amazing how restorative a two-day break can be!
We always call August Camp the “dessert” of our summer - it’s the sweet end that we look forward to all year long. August Camp families, if you are reading this, first - thank you! We know your girls have been anxiously awaiting their own Opening Day all summer long, and it is finally almost here. Know that we are equally excited to see them. If you need anything over the weekend, or have questions before Monday, just reach out. We cannot wait to see you!
