FOMO

About five years ago we restored our Old Town War Canoes. Perry White, our good friend and former Program Director, did the work… it took him a year of painstaking craftsmanship to finish each of our two boats and the outcome was (and is) absolutely wonderful. Giant canvas-covered wooden canoes that are unique. Old Town stopped making war canoes a long time ago. They never were very popular (way too expensive and difficult to use) and very few are still usable. I bet that in the whole world there are only a handful that have them available for children to use. Last night, any girls who wanted to enjoy that experience were able to do so… in the middle of pouring rain! Thank you Perry!

The campers had a blast in their canoe built for ten, as did everyone else. Seminar night was a hit for it gave everyone a chance to learn something new or do something old. I bet we could do seminar night every week and it would never get old. The girls are all talking about what they did, FOMO was evident beforehand… always a good sign for a great mix of activities. Such an amazing mix of compelling activities! The logistics were significant but the night seemed to come off effortlessly due to the hard work the counselors put in ahead of time. Success is 10% inspiration and 90% preparation! Thanks to Sarah and the counselors!

Rain was a part of our EP, but with no lightning, it did little to dampen the mood. In fact, paddling, swimming, and playing in the lake was MUCH better with a little liquid sunshine. Added bonus, hot showers and cozy cots with clean sheets to sleep in under the soothing influence of the rain on a tin roof. Heaven.

Today is a repeat of yesterday, weather-wise. Overcast skies, chance of rain all day… raincoats and boots are getting a workout. We awoke to rain, but by the time breakfast began the rain had stopped and it has not returned yet. This weather pattern should break today. With a little luck, we will have clear skies by dinnertime! Side benefit, high temperatures in the 70’s!

Tonight will be a big camp-wide celebration of “July Madness”, where we will cheer on the Final Four Pickleball and Ping Pong teams. It is going to be so much fun… we are attempting to re-create the atmosphere of March Madness in a camp setting. Food vendors wandering about with snacks and drinks, announcers giving play-by-play commentary, half-time entertainment, commercials… you get the picture. I can’t wait!
