Who’s excited about Main? Oh let me think about it…
- Jimboy, Margaret, Cat, JF, John… and the rest of the Miller clan! Last year we had the entire camp to ourselves and after the novelty wore off (approximately 3 days) it was such a bummer. I spent half of every day mowing the grass and cutting the weeds. Margaret studied every day and every night, trying to see a way through the maze of impossible COVID health regulations. We enjoyed hanging out at Putt Cove and watched fireworks on the lake, but it was not great. In fact, it was very depressing. WE CAN’T WAIT TO HAVE YOU BACK! We have NEVER experienced a summer without campers and we hope we never have to do so again.
- The Entire Year-Round Staff! Laura, Gervais, Sarah, Ellen-Anne, Katie, Alli, Elizabeth, Heidi, Joel, Wayne, Michael, Nancy, Diane, and everyone else (there are about 25 of us) who delight in serving you every summer. Our world revolves around those weeks when the campers are here and Main Camp is the Main Event for us. July is the month to shine and we can’t wait to once again have our hard work celebrated by those who appreciate it most.
- Meme, Murray, Tilly, and the other camp dogs! Camp dogs love it when camp is in session. They know what “Soupie” means, they love the mayhem of Opening Day and the solace of Council Fire. They love being around campers, you are the only “crowd” they know! Main Campers “get” camp dogs and the dogs appreciate it!
- The Counselors appreciate you perhaps more than anyone. Many of the counselors this year were signed up to work last year too… just like you they have been waiting a LONG TIME for Opening Day. We just completed the best June Camp in the history of Greystone (at least it appeared to be so to me and the rest of our team) and if the counselors did that well at June Camp, we can’t even imagine how great Main Camp is going to be.
You Main campers make Greystone different from most camps because of the wide diversity of age groups. Every one of you is in a rarified group of “camp fanatics” who love playing the camp game. You do camp the way it is intended, entering into every moment with all you have. This makes every event, every class, every EP, every song in the FORT, every dance party, EVERY MOMENT better. Your impact on the counselors and on each other is amazing and we can’t wait to ride the big wave of FUN with you!
One last comment… We can’t wait to welcome our Seniors back to camp, it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! To have Rising College Freshmen as “normal campers” is unique in the camping world. We are very excited to see the impact of the Senior group leadership in camp this year. These girls are often skipping their freshman orientation events to attend camp. They are spending their summer with their best friends in their favorite place and are planning to make this the BEST SUMMER EVER at Greystone. They will make sure that camp this year is amazing. It is a once-in-a-lifetime situation and we know it will be special.
Thanks for checking in girls… see you on Monday!
