Make This the Best Camp Road-Trip Ever

Opening Day is almost here - do you feel the butterflies yet?! Our whole community has been waiting almost two years to come back to the bubble (or join for the first time!), and thinking about being together again is almost too much. It can’t come soon enough!

But what happens every year before the fun can start? The good old pre-camp road trip. And whether you trunk across the country or drive in from just down the road, it’s worth that extra bit of effort to make it special. This time together can be so sweet and special, and we want you to arrive at camp feeling at peace and excited.

The Essentials:

  • As you know, there are a few things different about Opening Day this year, so pause before you leave and plan ahead. Make sure to have your printed Health Log and negative COVID test or copy of your vaccination card in hand, as well as any emergency or as-needed medications to drop off. Everyone in your car will need to be wearing a mask when it’s time for check in!
  • Remember that you will still be quarantining during your travel to camp, so be as cautious as you can be. Refrain from eating inside restaurants or making unnecessary stops, and if you do need to go into public, wear a mask and practice social distancing. Taking this pre-camp quarantine seriously will protect your daughter’s (and her cabinmates) camp experience!
  • As you’re packing your car, keep in mind that our staff will be grabbing your daughter’s luggage from your trunk quickly. Please pack so that her luggage tags are clearly visible. We don’t want to take your bags too!
  • Want to feel extra confident in what’s to come? Watch our Opening Day video! We’ve also compiled our best tips for preparing for goodbye. Have last minute questions that come up? Just give us a call!

The Fun Stuff:

  • Whether you have 20 minutes or 20 hours in the car together, spend it intentionally. Do you want to listen to her favorite music? Grab a treat on the way out of town (curbside pickup of course!)? Call her favorite Aunt to chat one last time? Ask your daughter what she wants to do, but also get a read on how she’s feeling the morning of. She may want to talk about how she’s feeling, or just make the whole car ride a party. Every girl feels differently on Opening Day morning!
  • Your job is to be the hype-woman. Especially if your daughter is a little nervous, you can help her by talking positively about camp and all the fun she’s going to have. You can tell her confidently that there are so many people who will take care of her here, and that you are excited for her to have the best time ever.
  • Don’t take it too seriously! You are on the way to camp and camp is fun. This is the time to sing-along to your favorite music, roll the windows down, and wave to everyone you see. After such a crazy year, your girl is off on a great adventure.
  • Looking for somewhere to grab coffee or breakfast after you drop her off? There are so many good places around town! Depending on what you’re in the mood for, we recommend Honey and Salt, Hubba Hubba, Sidewall Pizza, and The Purple Onion.

So camp families, we’re wishing you safe travels and fun memories as you travel up to camp this summer! Know that we’re waiting on the other side so excited to welcome your sweet daughters. This Opening Day is going to be the best one yet!
