Every year when I go to camp, I try to walk the seemingly impossible line of packing all of the things I need for the summer without overpacking. I’m still not quite there yet, but every year, I get a little bit better. I love the feeling of having everything I need for the summer condensed into a couple of bags - that’s the simplicity of camp!
With that, there are a few things I’ve found that make my summer way easier and better. Better yet, they’re all relatively inexpensive and, most importantly, optional! I personally love these things for reasons I’ll list, but there’s no need to go out and buy all of these yourself! If these things aren’t calling to you, no worries.
Question: can you have too many hair ties at camp? Answer: you sure can’t. Bringing a pack is a cheap investment, and there’s a high likelihood that your cabin mates will be asking you for a fresh one at some point throughout the summer!
When I became a camp girl, I also became a watch girl. Now I have a year-round watch tan and I always know what time it is. I’ve upgraded now, but my favorite watch of all time was a waterproof Timex.
One of the best things about camp is the numerous opportunities to dress up. A facepaint stick is a small and easy way to show some spirit! There’s a red, white, and blue one on Party City and a green, gold, and white one on Amazon.
The longer I’m at camp, the more I try and bring things that will keep packing simple. This corkboard/whiteboard hybrid has enough room for a few pictures and space to write your schedule or the theme verse!
This year for Christmas, I got packing cubes. I know, not the most exciting gift, but wow have I loved traveling with them. These would be great for keeping your drawer organized!
One of the things I’m most excited about for summer 2020 is teaching Cross Country again! I taught a first-period Cross Country class every other day during Main. When I got back to the office all sweaty afterwards, I would change clothes and use these face wipes to feel a little fresher. They’re also great for getting the aforementioned facepaint off!
Last but not least, one of my all-time favorite things to bring to camp is a good set of costumes. I’m a fan of buying these at your local charity thrift store. That’s where I got a green graduation robe that I wore to multiple Challenge Days, a slightly misprinted basketball jersey, and an exceptional Hawaiian shirt.
Greystone girls, what items did I leave out? Let me know in the comments, and bonus points if you include a link!
