By special request, I’m listing my top four Greystone Groove and Zumba songs here! I’ll admit, despite my total lack of rhythm or coordination, I love and will dance to any Groove or Zumba song ever. I try not to do this outside the Bubble in places like, say, the grocery store, but the heart wants what it wants. It’s okay if you disagree with my top four - shout out your own in the comments! Get out the fire extinguisher - the hot takes are coming!
1. 99 Red Balloons - Listen, team, this is the definition of iconic camp group dance. It’s a camp classic that’s been around since the beginning of Groove. It’s easy to pick up, yelling “call the troops out in a hurry” is a huge rush, and I’ve never finished it without my heart pounding like I’ve just run wind sprints.
2. Bailame - This is just such a fun one. From the fast-paced intro on, it’s fun and upbeat. Did my high school Spanish class give me the ability to translate it quickly enough to understand what’s going on? It sure didn’t, but I can tell it’s a party!
3. We Didn’t Start the Fire - Okay, I’ll admit it, there are still a few steps I haven’t figured out on this one after years of stopping in on Groove classes. But the challenge is part of the fun, right? At least, that’s what I keep telling myself. From complex moves to lyrics that sound like a syllabus to the world’s most ambitious history class, this one is always a fun time!
4. Firehouse - To confirm that this one should indeed make the top four list, I looked up the YouTube video and received in return an adrenaline rush roughly equivalent to a third cup of coffee. It’s upbeat, it’s fun, and it’s requested for post-EP dance parties all summer long. What’s not to love?
I’m sure I missed out on someone’s favorite Groove or Zumba song here! If it was yours, shout it out in the comments - I’d love to hear about it!
