Tonight we will assemble in the oldest area of camp (the Council Fire Ring) to talk about “important things” and award patches to girls who passed levels. Afterwards, we will quietly adjourn to the pagent court and light our closing vespers candles. It marks a poignant moment for all of us who have been here all summer during this most memorable chapter of an amazing book. Our 100th summer is ending and we are overwhelmed with gratitude. God has blessed this camp again… it has been a wonderful summer. We might tear up, the campers will just think it’s exciting (they always love the Me-Me Bird story and lighting candles).
How often are you struck by the magnificence of a moment? At camp we set aside time to appreciate such moments, to make such moments happen. A breathtaking sunset, a strong wind that foreshadows the afternoon thunderstorm, a flock of geese landing on a still lake; the beauty of life is easy to miss if we don’t pay attention.
Tonight we will pay attention as we light our candles and hold them high in a moment of surprising beauty. It is a moment of beauty that will be remembered for a lifetime.
The simple lessons of camp endure, for they arise from enduring principles. We hope the girls have experienced joy at camp and that they will cherish those memories when they return home.
Today is a full day of classes. A day of finishing projects, passing levels… and packing up. We will start packing our things so we can be prepared for the day after tomorrow (as you know, it takes time!). We will take long hot showers, make many trips to Lost and Found, laugh, talk, and play. There will be joy in every moment for the girls are REALLY EXCITED.
Tonight begins the culmination of a joyous session. When we blow out our candles and walk up the hill, we will be struck by how quickly this summer passed… amazed that camp is drawing to a close.
Thank you for making Greystone a part of your summer. Thank you for being a part of our best summer ever.
Thank you for reading the blog, we hope you have a GREAT DAY!
