I love that Steve Martin skit where he had difficulty communicating with a cab driver in Paris. He tries speaking in an accent, and with exhasperation exclaims: “It’s like those French have a different word for everything!”.
Camp can sometimes feel that way. We have little inside jokes, short cut phrases, and names that are only used at “The Bubble”. So here is a non-exhaustive list for reference:
Special Days
Maui Monday… Hawaiian shirts
Wildlife Wednesday… shirts that feature birds, fish, cats, dogs… really any animal, wild or tame.
Throwback Thursday… celebration of “old times”
Jersday… wear a jersey on Thursday (new)
Freedom Friday… American themed shirts (not really caught on, but close).
Sleep Late Friday… reveille blows at 8:30, an extra hour of sleep!
Dining Hall
Table Girls… campers who set the tables and get the hot food.
Bread Window… where we get bread and dessert
Window 2…Hot food picked up
Window 3… dirty dishes returned
Drink Window… pick up drinks and drop off cups/pitchers
Silent Celebrate… raise hands with jazz hands but no noise
Keep ya Plates… a non-cookie dessert
Crackers… nilla wafers (served after EP)
OCP… Oreo Cream Pie, everyone’s favorite dessert
Daily Routines
Job Wheel… how cabins rotate clean up chores
Bells… how we change classes and call table girls
Bugles… how we announce whole camp routines of the day
DMC… Deep Meaningful Conversation
Whites… what we wear on special occasions
DHP… Dining Hall Porch
East Side… the left side of the porch
West Side… the right side of the porch
The Pit… where most campers sit in the Pavilion
Shoppe Date… arranged meeting that occurs between Candy Shoppe and EP
Tuck Ins… after Devotion time in cabin, counselors check in with each camper.

FAC… Fine Arts Center
The Grey… White Hall
Putt Cove… the Marina
Greystone Point… a granite boulder that overhangs Lake Edith
The Meadow… a remote hillside field by the lake
Apple Hill… the meadow on top of Apple Hill (views!)
Grey Lodge… my house
Deep Country… where program counselors live
Bear Mountain… a mountain 10 minutes from camp (hiking)
Thunderhead… a mountain 5 minutes from camp (riding)

Breakfast… Sleep Late breakfast with cabin sack meals
Lunch… Roast Beef Sandwich
Dinner… 80’s Night (Sloppy Joes, tri color pasta, TCBY Yogurt)
EP… Opening Vespers
Weather… hot, humid, scattered showers
