We enjoyed a concert by Ellie Holcomb last night. Greystone LOVES ELLIE HOLCOMB (we also love Drew, but Ellie is our favorite!). We delight in her songs and have seen her family grow over the years with the pride of family. When the campers learned that Ellie was doing our Sunday Concert on the lawn, the cheer echoed up the Green River Valley. The joy and anticipation of camper and counselor alike was genuine. We knew it would be an evening to remember.
The temperature was perfect (75 degrees). Not a cloud in the sky as the sun slowly set as she sang… it would have been the perfect setting for a mellow concert, but the girls were ready to celebrate. They danced, sang, played, and chatted with bright expressions on their faces. They brought books, journals, sketch pads, knitting bags, and cameras too. They played on the swings and see saws, sat on the adirondak chairs, fed the fish from the docks, and braided hair. The grass was fragrent and the concert went long (the girls screaming out requests and Ellie joking back and forth with her fans).
The entire Sunday was a delight and we are finding joy in simply being together. There were lots of activities available for free time, but most girls chose to just hang out. They love being together. This is the joy of camp. These are the memories that we will cherish.
This feeling makes this time of camp very special. We enjoy changing tables in the Dining Hall (exciting to find the new table has lots of girls we already know as well as lots of girls we have not yet met). We enjoy our classes, the routines of rest hour and free time, shoppe after dinner, EP, cabin dance parties and devotions, taps, and that wonderful deep sleep arising from healthy living. It is hard to express how it feels… so great!
Rafting trips are going out this week, a lot of fun for the girls who chose to take this break to check out the whitewater of this area. Most will go on the Pigeon River (just over the state line in Tennessee) and some will go on the larger and more involved Chattooga River (in South Carolina). Both rivers are a lot of fun, the Pigeon is like a non-stop roller coaster and the Chattooga is marked by long peaceful stretches broken by huge class 5 rapids. The girls will miss most of the day at camp, returning happy and tired just in time for dinner and EP.
Tonight we will have a Movie Night for the Tentalows and Bungalows and the rising 11th and 12th graders will go to Asheville for dinner and a movie with the directors. It is a great night that will go late for everyone… so tomorrow we will have a sleep late routine, giving an extra hour of much needed sleep.
Thank you for your support and for keeping an eye on Greystone. We are thankful for you!
