Today is the start of our “Middle” week at camp (the best week of camp in my opinion). I like to describe it as the “sweet center” of the Oreo cookie that is camp. The first and last week are spectacular because of when they occur. The beginning of our session delights without effort. Every minute is exciting because every minute presents new things to enjoy. While there are adjustments to the new setting, those moments pale in comparison to the hours of delight! It is a slam-dunk week… Our last week is also a slam-dunk experience as we enjoy a whirlwind of big moments and building anticipation for Banquet Day. The first and last weeks are like a crunchy cookie, this week will be the sweet creamy center.
Now is when we become really comfortable with our new life at camp and with that ease comes a lot of magic. This week friendships will deepen (Shoppe Dates and DMC’s every day), skills will grow exponentially in classes, cabins groups will gel, and we will begin to appreciate the impact of an extremely close community. This is the best week of June Camp and what makes June Camp preferable to shorter sessions for many families.
We expect occasional conflicts between friends this week. Little arguments are normal in life so we develop skills to successfully get past such moments. Dealing with conflict in a loving way is a wonderful experience that the counselors will facilitate. We delight in asking forgiveness and giving encouragement; both of these good things will be a part of this next week and I am thankful for the opportunity.
Tonight we are doing a super funny EP, bringing back the MISS GREYSTONE PAGENT for the first time in decades. Each cabin is to “dress up” their counselor in a theme that is randomly assigned (imagine “Laura”, “Jimboy”, “Meme”, “Murray”, “Flagpole”, “Front Gates”, etc.) The girls are really excited about it… should be fun!
Thank you for sharing your girls and reading the news of camp. You are our faithful fans… I am grateful for your interest.
