A Golden Week

We have entered the “golden week” of June Camp: beginning with 3 days of signature camper programs and finishing with the highly anticipated Banquet. Projects are being completed in crafts, painting, ceramics, metal jewelry, glass beads, glass fusion, photography, calligraphy, drawing, and knitting classes. Dance, Drama, Music, Cheerleading, Stomp, and Juggling classes are practicing during free time. Horseback riders are preparing for the big horse show and Riflery, Archery, Tennis, Landsports, Canoeing, Kayaking, Sailing, and Adventure classes are laser focused on passing skill levels in time for the Council Fire. It all adds up to a sense of urgency and action for campers and counselors alike. So much fun!

The weather today continues the pattern (hot, humid, afternoon showers). It is perfect camp weather and will remain this way for the entire week.

Some things that have made my list of “favorite things” today are:

  • Production Night… about 2/3 of the campers will perform acts that were perfected in classes. Great Fun!
  • Patches… passing levels in classes is a big priority for many girls. If they want to do so, they will have to work hard!
  • Food… waffles for breakfast, fish tacos for lunch, our famous pizza for dinner. The campers absolutely love pizza night, check out our pizza video… amazing.
  • Tomorrow’s Horse Show… the girls will be able to skip classes if they like to watch the horse show. It makes the Horse Show a big deal… a great celebration of a great program!
  • Every EP from now on is a BIG DEAL. Tonight’s production, tomorrow is our the play (Annie). Wednesday is Council Fire/Closing Vespers and Thursday is Banquet. Momentum is building!

I could not be more proud of the campers (who have entered into every event with enthusiasm) and the counselors (who have fun working harder than they have ever worked before). That we are finishing this “golden” session with perfect weather seems somehow appropriate.

Thank you for making camp possible. Our 99th summer is off to a great start thanks to your girls. We think that you will notice significant growth in them when you reunite on Friday. They are WONDERFUL! Keep those emails and letters coming. A letter mailed today will make it here by Banquet Day, starting tomorrow you should just send emails. Camp is a big deal, you should congratulate your girls on finishing it so well. Write them that simple message is a good idea. They have indeed been spectacular.
