Opening Day Details - New Camper Blog Series

We cannot believe we’re just over a week and a half away from our first Opening Day of the summer! Opening Day just might be our favorite day of the year - it feels like Christmas morning!

Exciting as it is, it can be hard to keep all the details straight, especially your first time, so we want to break it all down and make Opening Day as simple as possible. Here we go!!

What time should we arrive? Our gates open at 7:30 a.m. and we ask that you arrive at our Opening Day entrance by 9:30 a.m. at the latest. Most campers will be here by 8:30 a.m. when we allow campers to head up to their cabins.

What happens next? Our friendly staff will meet you at your car, let you know your cabin number, and tag your heavy bags to be taken up to your cabin for you. If you arrive before 8:30 a.m., you can follow the signs to the Softball Field where you can mingle with other families, grab coffee at our Opening Day tent, and meet your Group Leader.

What should I wear? Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that can get wet - there’s always dew on our grass! Bring a raincoat as well, just in case.

What should I carry to the cabin? You’ll carry up small, loose items like pillows and toiletry caddys. If you choose to bring your own sheets and blankets, many parents like to carry those up themselves so they can start making the bed right away. Smart!

What’s at the Opening Day Tent? Come to our Opening Day tent before 8:30 to grab some coffee, camp SWAG, and a map. We’ll be there to answer any questions you have!

How do I meet my Group Leader? NEW this year! While you’re waiting to go up to your cabin, look for your cabin age group sign to meet your Group Leader and other girls your age. You can also ask at our Opening Day Tent and we can point you to her.

How do I find my cabin? Look for your Group Leader holding your age group sign on the Softball Field and she’ll lead you to it when it’s time to go. You can also ask any of our staff and they’ll show you where to go.

I’m at my cabin! What’s next? You’ll meet your counselor and get your nametag, and then start unpacking. You’ll then take any medications to the Health Hut (in their original bottles), stop by the Greystone Store if you want to pick up anything, head over to our Parent Reception on the Dining Hall porch (a must to taste our scones!), and stop by the Office if you want to drop off pre-written letters.

When should I leave? The morning goes fast, and we ask all parents to hit the road by 10:15 a.m. so that we can get going on the greatest summer ever! Give your daughter a quick hug - we will see you soon!
