Just today, I was trying to make plans to have dinner with a friend and realized that my calendar is filled with Christmas parties, our now-annual Christmas light tour, and even a Santa run! My to-do list (and Amazon cart) have the same spirit - lots of Christmas presents to buy and things to do to get ready! With all of the chaos (and excitement) of this season, I have to remind myself that this season is about more than having fun and buying gifts. Advent is a season of waiting, a season of reflection on a loving God who became a man so we could enter into a relationship with Him. It’s a season of the joyful anticipation that He is, even now, “making all things new” - Revelation 21:5, and setting us free - Luke 4:16-21.
The playlist I’ve made is full of songs to remind us of the goodness of this season and the goodness of the God who came to earth for us. Believe me, no one loves Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” more than I do, but this is a different type of Christmas music - these are songs to reflect on who Jesus is and what this season means for us. Take a few minutes to pause today and listen to these songs - pause from the relentless busyness of the Christmas season and think about what Jesus’s coming to this world means for us. Merry Christmas, Greystone girls, and happy listening!
