Happy 4th of July!
We love the 4th at Greystone. We love our country. We celebrate this attitude with the Flag Ceremony every day and on the 4th we take it to the next level! It is a lot of fun and a much beloved tradition that begins with costumes and face paint, continues into a decorated dining hall, and will ultimately end with a bbq picnic and fireworks by the lake.
Spirits are high as we enter week number two, a week that will be marked by some really big moments. The picnic will feature NC BBQ (Gervais has smoked about 700 pounds of pork butts for the occasion), corn on the cob, roasted potatoes, watermelon, and slaw. We immediately follow that food with a carnival EP (with tons of carnival junk food) and end with popcycles and a big fireworks show.
The girls love it all… the carnival rides the food, the dance contest, the fireworks: each moment is anticipated and celebrated. What a party!
Camp gives us a perspective that is very hard to find elsewhere in this skeptical world. Here we look for good in every situation and are genuinely appreciative for even routine blessings. When everyone is so upbeat and positive, that perspective becomes as natural as breathing. Wonderful!
This was evident last night. Remember the rain? It has been a constant disruption to our Evening Program plans… so it will not come as a surprise that our midnight movie did not happen. Instead, we ran to our cabins and enjoyed Domino’s Pizza home delivery! We ordered pizza for the camp and our Program Staff delivered pizza in the rain to screams of surprise and delight.
The sun is now shining and the girls are enjoying a perfect summer day at camp. If it rains tonight, we will roll with it. If it is nice, we will be thrilled! At this point we are just glad to be here.
Breakfast was hot croissants (ironic?)
Have a great Holiday!
