Comfort

We enjoyed a concert by Sean McConnell last night. He was very laid back and had an absolutely beautiful voice. He played all of his own work, really pretty melodies with great lyrics. The campers sat close to each other on picnic blankets. They brought books, journals, sketch pads, knitting bags, and cameras (of course). They played on the swings and see saws, sat on the adirondak chairs, fed the fish from the docks, played tennis and tether ball, and braided hair. The dry ground (didn’t rain all day!), fluffy clouds, blue sky, and pink sunset were wonderful. It is clear that the girls are very comfortable with each other and comfortable just hanging out at camp. No need to constantly entertain: just let them be together and they will be fine!

This feeling makes this time of camp very special. We enjoy changing tables in the Dining Hall (exciting to find the new table has lots of girls we already know as well as lots of girls we have not yet met). We enjoy our classes, the routines of rest hour and free time, shoppe after dinner, EP, cabin dance parties and devotions, taps, and that wonderful deep sleep arising from healthy living. It is hard to express how it feels… so great!

Rafting trips are going out this week, a lot of fun for the girls who chose to take this break to check out the whitewater of this area. Most will go on the Pigeon River (just over the state line in Tennessee) and some will go on the larger and more involved Chattooga River (in South Carolina). Both rivers are a lot of fun, the Pigeon is like a non-stop roller coaster and the Chattooga is marked by long peaceful stretches broken by huge class 5 rapids. The girls will miss most of the day at camp, returning happy and tired just in time for dinner and EP.

Tonight we will have a Movie Night for the Tentalows and Bungalows and the rising 11th and 12th graders will go to Asheville for dinner and a movie with the directors. It is a great night that will go late for everyone… so tomorrow we will have a sleep late routine, giving an extra hour of much needed sleep.

Breakfast was Corned Beef Hash and Grits, Lunch will be BLT’s, Dinner will be Breakfast for supper. Really great food. Wish I had a personal chef all year long!

Some of you have noticed the large number of photographs this year. This is a blessing that arose from having “guest photographers” in camp. For the past week Kristi Walters (a Greystone Alum and camper mom) has been taking photographs and her work was exceptional! There is something special about a mom’s perspective with pictures. She added about 1,500 to 2,000 photos a day to our counselors work… I am sure you noticed and I hope you liked it. Well, Kristi left today so our photographs will become more “reasonable” with regard to numbers.

We try to give you excellent photographs (the kind that you will want to keep forever). We provide these for free (most camps charge for high resolution downloads). We also hire professional photographers to add quality that will be noticed (for instance: lighting is very tricky to get right unless you are very good… the pros get it right every time). Bottom line: Know that we are doing our best to provide the service. You might notice fewer pictures this week, that is the reason.

Thank you for your support and for keeping an eye on Greystone. We are thankful for you!
