Grand Finale

On opening day we started our opening assembly with a line of counselors cheering the campers into the Pavilion. The girls could hear the cheers of the enthusiastic counselors as they walked down the hill and as they saw the reception that awaited them they would break into big smiles and run through the line. It gives me chills to remember… and we duplicated that moment last night as the campers entered the Dining Hall for the big banquet.

It is a wonderful tradition, one that brings tears to the eye (particularly on opening day). Such delight, such affirmation, such anticipation… Heaven!

June Camp is now over, marking a major accomplishment for all. Campers and counselors alike know that they have been a part of something special. We formed an almost perfect community for a brief period of time. That is a big deal, one that is worth celebrating.

A few points that stand out in my mind at this moment:

  • The June Campers were unusually close to each other this year. It is rare that girls of this age get emotional at the Banquet but when the counselors sang their final good night, there was not a dry eye in the house! It is a sign that the spirit in camp is very sweet. I think it has to do with our theme of love (I Cor. 13:4-8)… patience, kindness, and forgiveness flavored every friendship.
  • We enjoyed a VERY healthy camp. Very few visits to the Health Hut and no big accidents.
  • The weather was about perfect! Yesterday was our only “rain day” and even then it was only a very light rain that allowed classes to proceed as normal.

Thank You for allowing us to be a part of your family. It has been a delight.
