I often am asked the question: “What do you do in the winter”.
Fair question… Camp is an amazing place (it impacts lives, is fun, is deeply satisfying, is inspirational, and FUN)… yet we only have campers here 11 weeks a year. What do we do when the campers aren’t here?
The answer is obvious: Prepare for the next year!
Preparation begins almost immediately after the campers leave. We make notes on what the parents, counselors, and campers said over the course of the summer. These observations arise naturally while we are living as a loving community and we use these notes to enhance the camp experience for the upcoming year.
We work all year long improving the facility, the program, the website, the promotional materials, and the training routines. We gather amazing counselor prospects from all over the country and immediately start equiping them for the summer. We build community through social media, send them helpful newsletters that describe what they will do at camp, we post fun video’s, and of course keep our blogs current.
By the time everyone arrives, they are half way trained already! This means our Orientation week is focused primarily on building a cohesive team that has every detail clearly in mind for Opening Day.
So we have been doing exactly that for the past week (while Junior Camp is in session we train the counselors for the other sessions… CRAZY). My sense of this year’s counselor group is that they are a very comfortable and very enthusiastic… they show potential to be the best staff we have ever had. You will be impressed from the moment you drive through the gates on Opening Day.
WE CAN’T WAIT TO WELCOME YOU TO CAMP!!!
So get excited about what we have prepared for this summer. It promises to be our BEST SUMMER EVER!!!
