Almost Perfect

Bright blue skies, very low humidity, cool mornings, warm afternoons, light breeze, smiles everywhere… it is an almost perfect start to camp and we are thankful!

This is not to say that hardship does not exist. The cool mornings are very cool (record low of 48 degrees this morning). The smiles do not necessarily extend to every minute of the day (some girls are adjusting to camp and might write a homesick letter). There will be the occasional disagreement in the cabin, the occasional hurt feeling in a class, and the occasional twisted ankle. Any one of these “hardships” will impact our sense of well being (we don’t actually live in a bubble!); but at camp, hardship is more easily met face on… we conquer these moments with a good attitude and loving kindness. Such a place as this is almost perfect.

About that homesick letter… if you are concerned about this subject I suggest you read this blog from last year. Homesickness and camp actually go hand in glove and we are glad for that fact! Homesickness provides a great opportunity for character growth and with that in mind welcome the opportunity to equip the girls with the skills to overcome that awful feeling. Such skills pay dividends for a lifetime! All this being said… if you are concerned, give us a call or email. We will always be glad to check it out and let you know what is going on.

What am I excited about today…

  • SAM TAAFFE! Sam is our minister for Main Camp and is new to Greystone this year. He gave his first devotion this morning and I was moved to tears! What a GREAT speaker he is! What a great guy! The campers loved it and I think that one of the best gifts of this summer will come through this man and his family. Check out the morning assembly devotions when you get a chance. Sam’s devotions will be posted as soon as we can manage it (usually takes a day or so) and they will be well worth the listen. Most Morning Assembly devotions are between 5 and 7 minutes, an easy thing to work into your day and well worth the time!
  • Karen Logan! Karen is a camp mom who is helping us take photos this week. Talk about skills… talk about productivity… talk about organization… she has it all! It is largely due to Karen that we posted 4,300 plus photos yesterday. She is working very hard to enhance the photograph service to you and doing so with a mom’s attention to detail. We hope you appreciate the effort and are patient with us when Karen leaves this weekend (no way we will post as many quality photos without her). We are continuing to work on our photograph service and are proud to be one of the few camps that offer free high res downloads.
  • Fireflies! After EP last night I was struck by the fireflies that quite literally covered the grass of the front lawn. So many lights rising in the early evening darkness they startled me to a standstill. Thousands and thousands. I have lived here 50 years and never seen so many… what a strange and wonderful blessing!

Food today… BLT’s for lunch (thick cut bacon, home baked bread, lettuce and tomatoes from the farmer’s market). This is another thing for which I am thankful! One of our favorite summer meals, we smell the bacon and the bread at this very minute. We can’t wait!!! Baked chicken and roasted asparagus for dinner.

EP is Bungalow 3- Cabin 12 Lip Sync. Quality!

Thanks for checking in. Thanks for writing your girls. Thanks for your continuing prayers. Thanks for appreciating camp. You are the best!
