Opening Day Reminders - New Camper Blog Series

It is hard to believe that we are just a week and a half away from our first Opening Day of the summer! Opening Day is one of the most exciting days of the year – we truly cannot wait to welcome all of you new campers to Greystone!!

As we are gearing up for Opening Day, we wanted to share a few Opening Day pointers so that you can have the VERY BEST Opening Day ever!!!

Timing: We start parking cars at 7:30 a.m., greeting you at your car to tell you your cabin number and tag your bags. Then, at 8:30 a.m., we let all of our campers head to their cabins to meet their counselors.

What to wear: You’ll definitely want some comfortable shoes that can get wet – we have lots of dew on our fields in the mornings! Bring a raincoat as well, just in case.

What bags to tag: Once you park, our staff will come tag your bags. We can carry any of your heavy items up to the cabin for you. These items just need to be fully closed so that nothing spills out (for example, open tote bags don’t work!).

What to carry up the hill: If you are bringing your own sheets and blankets, many parents suggest carrying your bedding up the hill so that you can start making your bed right away. A great tip!

Opening Day tent: After you park and before you go up to your cabin at 8:30 a.m., you will be able to grab a coffee, a camp map, and some camp SWAG at our Opening Day Tent. We will be there to answer questions and make sure you are ready to go on your very first day of camp.

Find your Group Leader: At all of our sessions, as we near the 8:30 a.m. mark, our Group Leaders will be holding cabin signs and will spread out down on the softball field. If you would like to walk up the hill with your Group Leader, she can show you where your cabin is located.

Meeting your Counselor: Meeting your counselor is one of the BEST parts of Opening Day!! She’ll be waiting in your cabin with a big smile and a nametag just for you!

After moving in: After you make it to your cabin and begin to unpack, you have a few other things to do – take medicines to the Health Hut (in their original bottles), stop by our Greystone Store (if you’d like to buy some Greystone merchandise), head over to our Parent Reception on the Dining Hall porch (and to taste our wonderful scones!), and stop by our office (especially if you want to drop any Pre-written letters in our mail bins on the office porch).

Time to go: The morning goes fast, and we ask all parents to hit the road by 10:15 a.m. so that we can get going on the greatest summer ever! Give your daughter a quick hug…we will see you soon!
