You would not believe how beautiful camp is this time of year. The grass is as thick as a carpet. There is a symphony of bird song every morning and frogs every night. There are butterflies on the Putt Cove beach in the afternoon and the horses are eating new grass with contented grunts of delight.
The amazing thing about Spring is that it arrives so quickly. Bare tree limbs sprout leaves in a single day (I came home this week and a tree that was bare when I left for work had little leaves on every branch!). If we were patient enough we could probably watch the leaves sprouting… it is amazing!
And now for a little update on some things that we have been improving.
First is Thunderhead, our new trail riding facility located on the mountain that towers over Lake Summit. We are doing a really cool renovation to the barn which will make it perfect as a home base and camp out facility. There are miles and miles of trails that are perfect for horses and there is even a really cool river to play in. The barn is coming together nicely, the fences are repaired, the trails are groomed, and the pastures are green and ready for horses. I am very proud of it and know that many of you will fall in love with it this summer!
Next is the Gym… newly renovated with awesome cafe lights, shiny floor, dance room ceiling, and landscaping. One of the reasons we focused on the gym this year is so that Catherine’s upcoming wedding (April 22!!!) can have a beautiful reception in a perfect building. The amount of work as been significant but it was so worth it! You will love it too!!!
And everything Else!!!
We pick up so many sticks it would make your head spin. We clean up fallen trees (we had to remove almost 20 trees this year, but don’t worry we planted more!). We repair roads, build paths, fix leaks, plant grass, and add power outlets. We just had a school group come out to clean for a day. Twenty Two students worked all day picking up sticks (and mopping docks, cleaning dishes, putting new rubber feet on chairs, cleaning canoes, and pulling weeds).
And most of all Sam and his Merry Men have been working overtime to get everything perfect for your arrival. They have painted the swings, put up tennis nets, turned on the water in every building, renovated the Arts Center, installed new shoe racks on every cabin porch, repaired railings, painted bathrooms, and the list goes on. SO MUCH WORK has been done and camp looks great!
We are ready for summer to finally arrive! PLEASE COME SOON SO WE CAN START HAVING FUN!
