Every winter at camp, we like to invite our staff from the previous summer for a weekend of food, fun, and fellowship. This year’s staff retreat was one of our best yet! Counselors drove from all kinds of places, from Mississippi to Massachusetts to right here in Tuxedo.
We spent quality time by the fire in White Hall playing games and catching up. We ate lots of delicious food and all snuggled up in the health hut together- turns out the ward is a lot more fun when you’re not sick! Jimboy, Meme, and Murray joined us for a nature walk and a lowcountry boil. Alli Kilby- assistant kitchen director, junior camp program director, and all-around awesome person, put together a feast of boiled shrimp, potatoes, corn, and sausage. Everyone had a great time standing around the big tables peeling shrimp and talking!
I think the real winning moment of the weekend was piling all the mattresses in the castle (plus a few more) in cabin 12. We jumped and mattress-surfed and danced to our heart’s content- I wish we could do it every day at camp! The end result of all of our fun is going to be great- stay tuned, because we’re going to be sharing it on social media soon!
We also got to have appetizers at the barn with our awesome year-round riding staff as well as their new horses! Not to mention all of the kittens and dogs who now call the barn their home.
“Sounds like a great weekend,” you’re probably saying to yourself. And you’re right! On Sunday morning, we closed with worship songs and a devo from the wonderful Cat Miller. Everyone left thankful for the community that we have here at camp. Even though we live far away from each other, weekends with your camp friends are a great reminder that camp friendships are special- we are so grateful for this amazing place and the God who created it.
