In 122 days camp begins! Three Hundred Junior campers will fill the Green River valley with squeels of delight and peals of laughter. The program staff will carry trunks, parents will organize bunk drawers, campers will clutch favorite stuffed animals while cabin counselors chat and smile without pause as they engrave the names and the faces of their campers in soft hearts and keen minds.
The bonds formed in even a 1 week “toe in the water” camp experience are significant beyond words. Five weeks is beyond imagination. The growth that happens at summer camp is profound for everyone who is blessed to be a part of the community. The joy experienced at Greystone is beyond words, a heart filling experience of engrossing moments shared with friends that is not easily duplicated. I LOVE CAMP and I CAN’T WAIT to provide the Greystone experience for our 98th summer!
As you know, we work 41 weeks of the year to provide 11 weeks of camp. Obviously, our full time staff joins in this effort but so do our summer only staff. We have already hired most of the counselors who will join the family in about 4 months. They have committed to much more than a job, they have committed to pouring themselves into this community without reserve. We are praying for each counselor, each camper… praying for their safety, for their families, and most of all for their hearts to be ready for camp.
The theme this year is “LOVE”, the kind of love that God has for us… the kind of love we are called to show to others. Selfless love. Love without expectations that is poured out without reservation. Camp is the kind of place that encourages this kind of love. In this safe place we practice living the way we OUGHT to live. Here we are “better” than we are elsewhere.
The Bubble is a great place to experience life lived well and I can’t wait to step into that warm and welcoming place again.
Thank you for liking camp enough to read the blog in the middle of winter! Thank you for liking camp enough to be excited about every detail, even 122 days before you arrive! It is nice to look forward to the good gifts of life… I think EVERYONE should be looking forward to camp… one of the best things going on anywhere!
