I love the whole idea of “Favorite Things” blog articles. So much of the time we wallow in the things that we don’t like about our lives: for some reason it is easier to think about what we DON’T HAVE rather than what we DO HAVE. These Favorite things make us consider what is MOST important and enjoyed in our lives… SO THAT WE WILL BE THANKFUL!
So as you read about the five things that I am thankful for, take a moment to do your own “Friday Five”. It is fun and it will put your heart in a good place.
Margaret and I celebrated our 25th anniversary last month. To have had Margaret’s love, companionship, help, advice, and respect for 25 years has completely transformed my life. I can not imagine life without her and thank Jesus every day for bringing us together. She is a permanent part of my Friday Five!
On the Marriage front… I can not tell you how happy we are about Catherine and Peter’s engagement! Catherine would have made my Friday Five this week, having her working year round in the office is a delight, but knowing that our family will grow with the addition of such a fine young man fills my heart with joy. Watching “Father of the Bride” really makes me cry now!
I am a huge fan of great sermons. This love began when I was a child and I would read books by the fire in the library while my mother listened to sermons by Stuart Brisco (he had a wonderful accent!). My sermon “itch” is now best scratched by Tim Keller, and what better subject than Jesus! I have been listening to some great free sermons on Jesus and each one has blown me away!. If you think you won’t like listening to a sermon… give it a try!
I’ve been trying to be more intentional to pray specifically for friends, family, and work stuff this year, and this week joined the 31 Days of Prayer Challenge. I have found that the more I pray, the better life is! It is not that circumstances become “easy” but I find I just see challenges in a different light. Day 1 topic is “Have a Joyful Heart”… what could be better than to ask God for this kind of good gift? If we ask for a good thing the Bible says that God will give it to us. Take the challenge and see if it doesn’t change your life!
DOGS! My world in impacted by dogs in a big way. Meme, Murray, Honey, and Ben hang out with me all day every day. They sleep in my office, they walk with me when checking out the projects in camp, they run beside my car when I go to town, and when I go to sleep they sleep beside the bed. Such friends are a delight! If you don’t have a dog, you are really missing out!
Thanks for reading the blog… it is heart warming to know you are still out there!
