Opening Day number four in summer number Ninty Seven… amazing.
Time passes quickly doesn’t it? Blink of an eye and we find ourselves once again welcoming the best campers to the best camp ever… and loving every minute! We can’t quite get our arms around the fact that camp will soon be over. For two and a half months our world has centered around the “bubble” of camp life. Bugles and Bells propell us through days of delight that are quickly over. We sing and dance our way through the day without a care in the world; delighted by the simple blessings of camp and wishing that it would go on forever.
August Camp gives us one last chance to celebrate, and we intend to make the most of every minute! The girls are getting their health checks, taking cabin photos, playing in the pool (swim checks are like a big party), and getting to know their cabin mates as they tour the camp grounds before lunch.
The lunch buffet is a blow out of great salads and sandwiches that feature our famous homemade bread. The brownie recipe was handed down by Plato (Greystone Head Chef in the 1950’s), the smoked turkey was perfected by Gervais (current Head Chef). Food, as with most things, is soaked in tradition and celebrated by all.
Classes begin after rest hour, tonights Evening Program (EP) will be program skits by the counselors. We will collapse into our bunks tonight and fall fast asleep as taps blows and the sounds of crickets and frogs fill the air.
I love it all. Such a great place… we hope you will be enchanted too!
Thank you for writing your girls letters (hand written letters are the best thing you can do to encourage and delight your campers!). Feel free to send emails as well (we deliver camper emails every day at noon… time accordingly). And don’t forget to check out the pictures (we take a lot of them every day).
Camp is a wonderful gift that builds resilience, character, friendships, and skills. It was the best growth experience for my children and I hear that sentiment from literally hundreds of campers and parents every summer. This is our goal for the next two weeks… thank you for allowing us the opportunity!
