There are times when I am overwhelmed by how great camp is. So many moments that combine to form a tapestry of such beauty it takes my breath away. Counselors selflessly serving in ways that are very hard for you to understand- and doing so with joyful smiles and bright eyes that show that they are actually enjoying the moment. Campers picking up trash after EP as they help the counselors clean the Pavilion; saying “Thank You” to each other as they finish up the work. Eighty year old retired business executives laughing as they teach 8 year old campers how to bait and cast an old zipco rod and reel (and dealing with the consequences of 20 tangled lines!). So many great moments. So much good.
But our camp is FAR from perfect! We deal with all the difficulties you can imagine (500 girls… ’nuff said)… things like photography have presented particular challenges this year.
Our goal is to give you a LOT of great photos to put in your memory book for this year. To reach that goal we hire a bunch of counselors to take photographs, their goal is to put up 2,000 plus photos every day and they have met the goal beautifully most of the summer but not so much at August Camp this year. The simple reason: a lot of the photographers have had to leave for school or fill in as counselors in classes that need extra coverage. You have not gotten as many photographs as you should have gotten and we are sorry for that… but we also want you to know that we are very happy with they way this session has turned out. Such difficulties as photography coverage fade away like the morning fog in the bright light of the moments we are experiencing.
Things to be aware of with camp today:
Thank you for sharing your girls and reading the news updates. It is such a pleasure to do this work and we are grateful for your families… the best in the world!
