“By George, I Think They’ve Got It”!
Amazing difference in the overall camp dynamics today. The girls are completely engaged (super loud in the Dining Hall, singing all the songs with all the motions, running to Assembly, and showing lots of team spirit in their classes).
This is not to say that they have not been engaged before today. A casual observer might not see the difference but camp fanatics can see that the girls have finally REALLY settled into camp life and are getting glimpses of what all the “fuss” is about.
The Wait List is not due to our facility, staff, or program… it is due to the connection that is made with the girls when everything clicks. This connection takes time, the more time the better! This morning marks the sixth day of camp and the morning that I saw it click.
I noticed it in the Morning Assembly, where for the first time ALL the campers were dancing and singing during the fast/fun praise & worship music that takes place before the slow songs. Up till now they would sit and watch the counselors who were singing and dancing on stage during this time… it was like a “show” to the girls. They would watch, smile, and even sing along but not think of doing it themselves. Today they decided that it is not a show, it is a party! They decided on their own to enter into the moment with abandon. So much fun!
Perfect timing too… for today is challenge day! Good natured competition between the odd cabins and the even cabins. The competitions are done in each class, making the class time a bit different and adding some zest at the end of the week. It is the perfect compliment to the Carnival that we enjoyed last night and the perfect lead in to the Birthday Ball and Talent Show tonight.
Thank you for checking in. Have a Great Day!
