It is hard to know what to say in such a moment as this.
Main Camp was so intensely good it has defied words. To have such a community just cease to exist is even harder to describe… so I won’t try. Too tired!
Instead, I will just say Thank you.
I will also share the Farewell I wrote in this years Green and Gold.
Summer Camp: for us these words elicit strong emotions… lazy days of well-worn routines punctuated by bells and bugles. A place where cool high school girls hang out with nerdy grade school girls, forming unlikely friendships of love and delight. A place marked by moments of joy that become memories that are cherished for a lifetime.
Your mothers and grandmothers shared this experience when they attended Greystone and your daughters will experience it when they return as campers thirty years from now.
Camp is and will always be, a taste of heaven… our very own miracle in the mountains.
Don’t be surprised if you really miss camp next week. You might find your eyes opening promptly at 7:30 in the morning, as you wonder why the bugle has not blown. You might find yourself yearning for that special friend when you see a beautiful sunset, hear a funny joke, or read a great line in a book. You will notice a firefly in your back yard and briefly consider chasing it, but the chase is not the same anymore. Life is better when shared with friends, and no friendships are better than camp friends! Their words of encouragement always comfort, their keen observations always inspire, their jokes always amuse. Camp friends will always enhance life. So cherish these friendships and keep them safely in your heart.
Remain the girls you have shown yourself to be at camp this year and remember the simple lessons of camp as you grow every day in the Four Fold Way… Confidently shining the light of God’s love to a dark world.
Thank you for making this year the Best Year Ever! We love you dearly.
May the grace, peace, and love of God the Father go with you both now and forever.
