For the past two years at this point of Main Camp we had “Do Nothing Days”… basically sleeping late, a bunch of laid back optional activities open around camp, a picnic lunch, and a fun concert while by the lake. It was a lot of fun and the campers thought we would duplicate the event again this year which is why Backwards Day was such a surprise.
We awoke to “Taps”, ate Corn Dogs and Cheese Fries for breakfast, went to candy shop, did EP all morning (the Jimbolympiad), and will have morning assembly tonight (a fun group singing time on the lakeside Apple Hill pasture), and go to bed with “Reveille”. I took a ton of pictures (broke them into two folders for your ease), the first part included an egg toss and some really fun relay games by cabin groups and the second part was a giant shaving cream fight and hose off by the local fire department. It was crazy fun… I think the girls will think it one of our best events of the summer (and that is saying something).
These breaks in the routines of camp are fun… the routine of camp is fun… the traditions are fun… the shows are fun. Camp is just a really fun place!
We are going into another relaxed weekend and will be celebrating our friendships with a lot of DMC’s (Deep Meaningful Conversations) because we can now sense that our time is growing short. The big programs of camp are just around the corner, which means that banquet can not be too far off. We aren’t counting the days yet, but will start next week… the older campers know to make every day count. Such a wonderful point in the summer!
Thank you for making it possible!
