Well Done

In the parable of the talents Jesus spoke of the servants who were faithful and then recieved a compliment from their master: “Well Done, good and faithful servant!”. These are the words we all long to hear.

We long to hear these simple words from our parents, our teachers, our bosses, and ultimately our God. Any time that message is given it satisfies the heart in a profound way that is very hard to explain. Today these words and the feelings that come with them are experienced at Greystone… For those who work at camp, the feeling is particularly deep at the closing of the camp season.

At camp we create a little world that is profoundly good, the world the way it Should be. Our work is hard but the effect is highly motivating: for here we see the potential of life fulfilled in moments of delight and joy that are shockingly intense. As the hours quickly turn into days which quickly turn into weeks we discover the truth of the saying “the more you give the more you recieve”. This truth of life is abundantly true at camp. We already miss “the bubble” and yearn for it’s return!

To those who have made this summer possible we once again say Thank You.

• Parents… we know that camp is often a difficult decision to make. It costs a lot, takes a lot of time, is often inconvenient, and requires a ridiculous amount of patience (the Wait List is a real pain to endure). Many of you do not have a personal experience of camp, thus the experience can be particularly difficult to value. That you gave us a chance is very humbling. Your support makes the bubble possible… hard to express how thankful we are for your trust.
• Campers… by “playing the camp game” you make this community a delight. It is hard to imagine Greystone filled with campers who are surly, selfish, grurmpy, and unwilling to sing silly songs. To see you skip down the road, sing and dance in the pavilion, roll down the pagent court, and cry during devotions fills our hearts with joy. YOU make camp good. Thank You!
• Counselors… when you first decided to work at camp you probably had no idea what you were signing up for! This is a ridiculously difficult job, and most VERY HARD jobs are filled by VERY HARD people. You, in contrast, became softer the more time you were here. Your hearts have softened to the point that you tear up when hearing the story of the frog and the scorpion and when you catch the eye of a friend at the closing banquet. You “get it” better than anyone. You define what camp is and the memory of your impact in this place will endure. Thank You seems inadequate.

And to The One, who made this summer possible: The Great I Am, Alpha and Omega, Lord and Savior, our Comforter, the Ever Present, All Powerful, Mighty God, Creator, and Loving Father… to You be the Glory. Thank You for The Best Summer Ever.
