We awoke to overcast skies and cool temperatures… but that is just an illusion. Today will be a repeat of the weather we enjoyed yesterday: warm, dry morning, scattered afternoon showers, and a glorious cool evening. North Carolina is the perfect place to be this time of year!
There are about 40 camps in the three counties that comprise this part of North Carolina. Camps are a wonderful vehicle for enjoying the many elements that go into a successful camp experience. The weather is conducive to living outside (one of the things I like best about camp is how we celebrate such things as a cool breeze or sunshine streaming through the trees). We notice the world that God has given us and we are thankful. Camp memories are enhanced by such things as the thunderstorm that arrived just as Rest Hour began and the mist that always rises from the mountains after the storm departs. Hot humid days are relieved by a jump into the lake or a swim in the pool. These sensations impact our souls, imprinting memories that last a lifetime. It is wonderful!
Though camp is wonderful, it does not mean it is easy. Some girls will need some time to adjust to camp, homesickness is a part of the camp experience and it can be a very positive growth experience. I was homesick every year I went to camp as a boy, I was homesick when I went to college, I was homesick when I started my first job… homesick feelings don’t end at childhood so the skills that we learn at camp become hugely valuable later in life. Homesickness fosters a sense of confidence and builds a strong character, for the secret of overcoming homesickness is to look to others (unselfishness is a character trait that overcomes homesickness).
We are good at providing good camp memories… even if homesickness is a part of the experience! We communicate with you quickly and want your advice on how to best connect with your girls, that call will come as soon as we feel that the symptoms are worthy of note (are negatively impacting her camp experience). I have written on this subject eariler in the summer (The Dreaded Homesick Letter) read it if you want to be “educated”.
Breakfast was the traditional Ham and Apples, biscuits, grits, fruit bar, cereal… I LOVE this breakfast!
Lunch is Chicken Strips and tots… what’s not to like there?
Dinner will be a wonderful Baked Potato bar.
Program tonight is the Tentalow Lip Synchs, a fantastic program that gets half the camp on stage to an adoring audience. Lights, Camera, Action!
Thank you for sharing your girls. We are having a Great Day!
