Third Monday

It is hard to believe that today begins the third week at camp. Does time pass this quickly in the “real world”?

I know that time is slipping through your fingers as well… you had all these big plans for the time that your camper would be at camp and now you look around and realize that many of those plans are not going to happen. This is the way life works: circumstances overwhelm the best of plans and we must adjust.

The campers don’t worry about how quickly the days are passing; to them these are the lazy days of summer. We intentionally step the tempo of camp down a notch this week in an attempt to give the girls a “traditional” camp experience. We will share lots of time with our cabins and peers as we do such things as Corn Roast, Cabin night, and Group Night EP’s. Tonight will be the big Movie Night when Margaret, Laura, and I host the Senior girls to a night out (the Seniors look forward to this night all year long… so much fun). The Junior group will enjoy a movie in Whitehall (which allows them to finish earlier than the rest of camp and get in bed for a good nights rest). Some girls will go on Apple Hill for their overnight which will also include a midnight movie (not much sleep for that crowd) and the rest will be in the pavilion (with so much room they can stretch out and watch the movie in comfort). Every group will see different movies, all will be great!

Things for you to know:

  • LAST NIGHT“S CONCERT was a hit. We introduced the girls to the group “Love & the Outcome”… if you are a fan of Christian music you probably have listened to some of their songs (He is with us has over a million views on Youtube). Our plan was to do the concert by the lake but a late rain forced a move inside and that proved to be a better choice. This young couple won the hearts of the girls with their FUNNY, JOYFUL, AUTHENTIC, and FUN music. It really was wonderful (and surprising) to see a new group get welcomed into our community so quickly. When they came out on stage with the shiny shoes, leather jackets, and “Luke Skywalker” pants I was fearful that they might crash… but I can tell you that it was simply a wonderful show. We really hope that we can have them come back for many years to come!

  • The Weather is awesome. It has warmed up by a couple of degrees (high of 83 today) and dried up (just a 20% chance of rain every day this week). I love the rain, it really doesn’t impact camp in a negative way… but the sun is nice too. Afternoon classes were impacted by rain many days last week, they should be golden this week!
  • Camp Routines are now well understood and well accepted. These routines have allowed for friendships to naturally grow as we see familiar faces (in classes that have now been meeting for two weeks… how can we not get to know lots of people) and meet new ones (we changed tables in the dining room… it will take a couple days to get to know the new table: a great opportunity for practicing social skills!).
