Whew…
That is the feeling that I get after every opening morning. The process is a lot of fun but it is also a bit exhausting! When the bugle blows at 9:30 for the girls to return to their cabins and begin their opening day routines, it also calls me back to the office where I sit down in the same space my father used fourty years ago to direct this wonderful camp. I open the doors to the porch and listen to the sounds of a happy camp: the subdued chatter from cabin groups walking by, distant squeals of delight from the tentalows, lively conversations in the adjacent hostess cabin (as our great Hostesses explain things to parents and guests)… these sounds remind me that camp is once again clicking along. The well oiled machine is once again running smoothly and I can expect great things in the near future.
The greatness of camp is best found in the campers who arrived today. Wonderful girls who are quite literally beside themselves with excitement for the next two weeks. All summer long they have awaited this time and they intend to make every minute count. It is going to be spectacular!
So now the magic begins. Make sure you do a few things today:
Thank you for sharing your girls and supporting our camp. We appreciate the friendship and the prayers… God has been protecting this place for 96 years and we give Him the glory for the wonderful place that is now home to your girls. We hope that your family will love your experience at Greystone. We think it is a very special place!
