Today we will experience our first full day of camp, and it is going to be marked by a whole bunch of “firsts” that will set an expectation for the rest of the session.
Our First Breakfast Club After an amazing breakfast of pan fried ham and apples, fresh biscuits, grits, fruit, berries, oatmeal, yogurt, cereal, and eggs (much of this they get from the salad bar, which never ran out of anything nor had a line!) we have a little time with Jimboy known as Breakfast Club. I give a little inspirational thought of the day (how to grow while at camp) then tell a little joke. The first Breakfast Club is always fun (especially for the old campers).
Our First Morning Assembly Shortly after leaving the Dining Hall we are called to Assembly at the Pavilion. We sing and dance to some old favorite Praise songs, then have a couple quiet songs led by Cecilia Glenn (Group Leader and professional musician), and a short Devotion. I led today’s devotion (what the Bible is good for) then the girls were dismissed to their classes.
Our First Classes The first class is a big deal… if the class is fun, the girls can’t wait to go back; if the class is not fun, the girls will question their decision to take that activity. We allow the girls to change out of a class if it is not fun, so the heat is on the counselors to make this first day AMAZING. They usually knock it out of the park! A never ending stream of excellent classes makes for a very happy first day of camp. The girls were given their schedules yesterday and have been “fine tuning” their class schedule ever since. They sometimes want to change classes so that they can take a class with a particular friend. It is easy to do class changes at this point in the session (but we like to get our schedule set after a couple of days)._
Our First EP After dinner we will have our first EP (Evening Program). The Tentalow campers will be on stage this evening performing Lip Synch’s for the rest of the camp. It is a wonderful night and much anticipated by all (the girls have been practicing their acts since they arrived). We have invested in significant upgrades to our Pavilion tech capacities (digital lighting system that controles special effects as well as the lights, and new audio equipment) and the stage curtains and side panels. Performing on such a stage in front of such an audience (about 700 cheering fans) is intoxicating!
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
Sending your girls to enjoy this experience is a huge gift to them and to us (the counselors, the directors, the support staff, my family). We are deeply grateful and are going to make the most of every minute with your precious girls!
Have a Great Day!
