Final Preparations

OK June Campers… the curtain is about to rise on the best summer of your life! We have been preparing for this day ALL YEAR LONG and IT IS GOING TO BE GREAT!!!

Most of our counselors have been here for at least a week, getting ready for your arrival. Much of this time is spent working in the various departments, earning certifications, and cleaning. There is also a lot of time spent in meetings where they learn what is expected of them in every situation. Finally, there is a lot of time spent getting to know each other.

Forming a tight knit counselor community is the first and most important step in assuring a Great summer. They must like, trust, enjoy, and communicate well as a group… and this takes time. That time is now almost complete and we will see how it works in action on THIS most FUN of days!

Today is Counselor Play Day… where we do an entire day of camp with the counselors taking turns being campers and counselors. Every class will meet at least a couple times during the day and those counselors will have a chance to teach their classes with a group of excited “campers”. It is a LOT of fun, and the weather is perfect for the task!

High temperatures in the low 80’s, chance of afternoon showers (perfect rest hour?)… this weather is why over 60 camps choose to make Western North Carolina home! It really is the best place in the world for summer fun.

I will take a few photos, (a good chance for you to log onto the camp photos page to get familiar with the process again). I will also share the joke from Breakfast Club (pretty funny).

A “Converse Girl” is visiting Scottland when she sees a beautiful herd of sheep. Running up to the shepherd she exclaims how much she loves them and asks if she can have one IF she correctly guesses the number of sheep in the herd. The shepherd agrees, and she exclaims: “354!!!” CORRECT!!! He is astonished and lets her pick a sheep. He then asked her “If I can guess what college you went to will you give me back my sheep?” She agreed and he said “CONVERSE… now will you give me the dog?”

Have a Great Day!
