Sarah's Recommended Reads

There is nothing I enjoy more than a good book and a peppermint hot chocolate while sitting by the Christmas tree. The holidays make for a great time to grab a book and read something that is just plain fun. Here are some of my favorite books that I’d recommend this Christmas season:

The greatest gift .jpg?ixlib=rails 2.1

The Greatest Gift or Unwrapping the Greatest Gift by Ann Voskamp: these are great reads by a great author that help prepare your heart for the Christmas season. They start on December 1, so if you hurry, you can catch up quickly and join in as Voskamp weaves the story of the Bible throughout this holiday season.

Wingfeather saga .png?ixlib=rails 2.1

The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson: we were so very lucky to have had Andrew perform at a concert during Main camp two summers ago, and on top of being a talented musician, he is a wonderful writer. His Wingfeather series is suspenseful, fun, and adventurous. If you like Harry Potter or enjoy the Lord of the Rings, I would highly recommend this great series. A fun family read aloud too!

Grace for the Good Girl by Emily Freeman: a great read for high school aged girls, Freeman talks about how we strive to be good enough in everything we do. If you feel like you just can’t live up and just can’t quite get it right, this book is a great read. (Her most recent book Simply Tuesday would also be a good one for adults during this busy holiday season – reminding you to slow down and appreciate the everyday!)

Reay dear mr. knightley.jpg?ixlib=rails 2.1

Dear Mr. Knightley by Katherine Reay: more suited to high school age and above, just a fun fiction love story told through letters; it’s an easy book to pick up in a busy holiday season.

Wednesdaywars.jpg?ixlib=rails 2.1

Wednesday Wars by Gary Schmidt: suited for late elementary and above, a great story about a boy trying to figure out why his teacher hates him and the funny things that happen at school. It’s just plain fun!

Home is where my people are.jpg?ixlib=rails 2.1

Home is Where My People Are by Sophie Hudson: if you are looking for a good laugh this holiday season, this book is perfect. A great storyteller detailing Southern families and hilarious memories of growing up, Hudson will make you laugh while also showing how God has his hand in the different stages of your life. (Her book A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet is also so much fun!)
