Tuesday

The perfect weather is here!

The change was noticeable yesterday afternoon… a steady cool, dry, breeze coming out of the North which was noticed by everyone. At camp, weather is a big deal. We delight in the afternoon rain shower, we survive the occasional heat wave, and we rejoice on days like this. The perfect day for the perfect time of camp.

The EP last night was a hit. Starting with everyone wearing their team colors (t-shirts given out at rest hour) and a delicious picnic of Jamacan Jerk Chicken, rice, beans, grilled pineapple, and plantains… the perfect way to kick off our big event. We set up a “stadium” of bleachers on the soccer field where teams sat together to cheer on the opening and closing relay’s of the night. After a big start we broke up and did relay’s all over camp (each event scored) then gathered for gutter sunday’s (200 feet of gutters filled with ice cream sundays served in cones) and the final relay’s of the night. Our Senior campers did some very messy relay’s to thunderous cheers of encouragement… the Blue Team won the night by a whisker! All members of the Blue Team get a special t-shirt and dinner next Sunday night (Domino’s, wings, and real coke).

Today is a perfect day of classes followed by a perfect EP. Classes are punctuated by an intense need to pass levels, finish projects, and prepare for presentation… in one week we will be having Closing Vespers so we are always thinking “tick tock”. EP is the Counselor Talent Show. The camper talent is legendary and wonderful… counselors are of a different order. There will be a few actual talents presented, which will be appreciated all the more since they are not just a silly skit… but most of our counselor talent always falls into the silly category. It is delightful. Kind of the perfect camp EP, most appreciated at this point of the summer (seeing a favorite counselor on stage is delightful).

Breakfast Club shifted to our final “point” of the 4-fold way… Spiritual Growth. My encouragement to the girls was to take Spiritual growth seriously in their lives. Almost everyone will agree to the benefits of Social, Physical, and Mental growth (our culture values such things… it is not a hard sell). But our culture does not put much value onto Spiritual Growth, it seems kind of foolish to many of us. The Bible says otherwise… that until we come to grips with our spiritual condition, until we put our faith in God, we will not be content. We are made in God’s image, we are made to have relationship with Him. That relationship is a spiritual one and must be worked on in order to grow. So decide IF spiritual growth matters… no matter what age, it is a question that must be resolved. To ignore it is to make a decision, don’t think otherwise!

What a glorious place this is. What a glorious group of people! Thank you for being a part of it all.
